Questions and Answers:
Fort Sumter Subsurface Investigation--W912HN21Q5024
Q: I saw the solicitation for a barge for the work at Fort Sumter. Has a firm already been selected to do the drilling? Our Firm is very interested in submitting a Proposal. We have the equipment necessary, have been in business for 71 years, have performed drilling around and even inside the walls of Fort Sumter before and are also a DBE.
A: Drilling will be done by USACE personnel with USACE owned equipment.
Q: Our barges do not have moon pools. However, we’ve supported many drilling projects over the years by utilizing a custom-built work platform that extends over the side of the barge and effectively creates a moon pool for safe drilling operations. Is this acceptable? We will provide drawings of the work platform per the solicitation.
A: This is acceptable as long as there is ample working space for the drillers and drill rods.
Q: Can you provide the most recent bathymetry map with the datum specified of the site that shows the 3 boring locations?
A: See the most recent picture USACE has.
Q: The use of HYPACK is specifically called in the scope of work. Would you allow the contractor to use any other navigation software to aid us in the navigation / locating the borings?
A: You can use anything if an accurate x, y and z coordinates are given.
