SCOPE OF WORK

LAC QUI PARLE COFFER DAM

FLOATING SILT CURTAIN

1. General. This scope of work includes the requirements for two floating silt curtains that are needed to contain sediment from the construction of an earth coffer dam in order to dewater the Lac Qui Parle

Dam, located on the Minnesota River, near the town of Watson, Minnesota. One floating silt curtain will be used on the upstream coffer dam and the other will be used for the coffer dam on the downstream side. The contractor shall provide all components required to form a complete system for both silt curtains. These components include, but are not limited to, floats, skirts, top tension cables, connections between curtain segments, ballast, and anchoring systems. Please note that all of the dam gates will be closed while the floating silt curtain is in use, and at no time will it extend to the overflow spillway portion of the dam. The only portion of the floating silt curtain that will be exposed to the maximum water velocity will be roughly parallel to the current.

2. Dimensional Requirements and design data. The dimensions and design requirements of the upstream and downstream floating silt curtains are as indicated in Table 1 below:

3. Material Requirements. Both floating silt curtains shall be constructed from materials described in Table 3 below:

4. Submittals. The Contractor shall submit documentation showing conformance with the requirements in paragraph 2.

5. Delivery Location. The floating silt curtains and all accessories shall be delivered to the following location:

Delivery will only be accepted Monday thru Friday between 0800 ‐1600 hours, federal holidays excluded.

6. Required Delivery Date. Both the upstream and downstream floating silt curtains shall be delivered to the delivery location specified in paragraph 5 no later than 3 weeks from contract award.

TABLE 2. Floating Silt Curtain Material Requirements

Class Type II DOT

Fabric for Skirt Area 22 oz PVC with 500 lb per square inch tensile strength

Floatation 8 inch diameter expanded polystyrene foam contained in individually sealed float pockets. Floats shall be segmental to allow for folding for transportation and storage.

Top Tension Top tension shall be provided by galvanized steel cables.

Bottom Tension and Ballast

Bottom tension shall be provided by at least a 5/16 inch diameter galvanized steel chain

End Connectors End Connectors shall be constructed from aluminum universal connector at float top and tension cable. Locking pins shall be constructed from an appropriate non‐corroding material. (Stainless steel or aluminum) Lacing grommets shall be provided on a reinforced fabric skirt.

Anchoring System The anchor system shall be designed by the manufacturer for flow in one direction.
