Surveyor’s Report Hydrographic Survey

Survey No. 16-032 Naples to Gordon Pass PCS FY16

Naples, Florida

James Allison, Geodesist, USACE Jacksonville District

Location: Project is located in Naples, Florida.

Date: Survey was performed 21 – 24 January, 2016

Access: There were no access issues for the duration of this project.

Personnel: Boat Captain: Jonathan Shelhamer; System Operator: Travis Smith, Eric Boe.

Datum: Horizontal coordinates are based on the state plane coordinate system for the East zone of Florida (SPC-FL-E), and referenced to the North American Datum of 1983. Elevations are referenced to MLLW, tidal epoch of 1983 – 2001 reported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

KTD File: Naples-GP-14Sep2010.ktd was used for relating NAVD88 to MLLW.

Instruments: The following instruments were used for data collection:

SB-48

Data Collection Software HYPACK 2015

Sounder Ross Smart Sounder 835B Dual-Frequency 28/200 kHz Edgetech 6205 Combined Multibeam Side Scan Sonar

Positioning Applanix PosMV WaveMaster Trimble R8 Receiver / TDL450H Radio Modem

IMU Applanix PosMV WaveMaster

Field Procedures: This survey was performed utilizing Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS with a base receiver established at survey monument “S-717” (PID: BBCC62) for cuts 1- 15, the turning basin, and the nearshore disposal area. See Appendix 1 for additional station information.

Tidal reductions were obtained utilizing RTK and referenced to MLLW using a HYPACK KTD file provided by Geomatics section, titled “Naples-GP-14Sep2010.ktd”. A tide staff was set from survey monument “S-717”, located on a wooden piling directly east of the tidal station, and was used to verify RTK tides prior to surveying. See provided KML file for additional location information.

Bar checks were performed prior to survey operations to verify draft and sound velocity corrections. Sound velocity corrections were also verified using an YSI CastAway sound velocity profiler.

Singlebeam longitudinal check lines were used as an independent check against the multibeam transducer.

RTK checks were made at R-90 prior to performing topographic survey.

Special Notes: Beach Topographic data was collected in NAVD88 and later converted to MLLW by used a conversion value of 2.17.

Data Processing: Hydrographic data was processed and sounding spikes were removed immediately upon completion of the survey. Single Beam longitudinal lines were used as an independent check against the multibeam. Old versus new cross sections were created to verify accuracy of the survey against the previous survey number 13-173. PosPac corrections were utilized for cuts 8-15. Data files are available upon request.

Field Conditions: Sea conditions were choppy, 70 degrees.
