About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) record for an RFQ (Request for Quote) for a 1600 CFM air compressor, solicitation number W192EK26QA026, issued by MRPO. The Q&A addresses six substantive inquiries from prospective vendors regarding specification requirements and compliance flexibility.

The solicitation specifies a maximum package width of 90 inches, maximum ambient operating temperature of 125°F, maximum sound level of 85 dBA at 20 feet, three 1-inch NPT service valves and one 3/4-inch NPT service valve, and trailer-mounted Class 0 oil-free diesel portable compressor platforms in the 1500 to 1600 CFM range. The buyer clarified that the 90-inch width is mandatory due to space constraints on a barge where the equipment will be deployed, the 125°F ambient temperature requirement is mandatory as the unit will operate on the Mississippi River subject to direct sunlight, the 85 dBA sound level is a non-mandatory safety request from operations and will be measured with a calibrated decibel meter under standard operation, the required service valves may be field-installed rather than factory-installed, and the compressor unit will be removed from the trailer and placed on the barge with the trailer retained for servicing purposes. The buyer's responses establish clear operational context for the Mississippi River barge application while permitting flexibility in certain installation methodologies and non-mandatory specifications.

MRPO - 1600 CFM Air Compressor - W192EK26QA026 RFQ Questions

Q1. Maximum Width Requirement: The solicitation specifies a maximum package width of 90 inches. We would respectfully appreciate confirmation as to whether this 90-inch maximum width is a strict mandatory requirement, or whether functionally equivalent equipment that slightly exceeds this dimension may still be considered acceptable for evaluation.

A1. The unit is going on a barge with limited space. 90 inches is maximum area for this location.

Q2. Maximum Ambient Operating Temperature: The solicitation specifies a maximum ambient operating temperature requirement of 125°F. We would be grateful if you could please confirm whether this requirement is mandatory for guaranteed continuous-duty operation, or whether manufacturer-rated continuous-duty ambient limits typical of this equipment class may be considered acceptable.

A2. This unit will be operated on a barge located in the Mississippi River and subject to direct sunlight for daily operation. Temperatures reach 125 degrees around the equipment during operation.

Q3. Sound Level Requirement: The solicitation specifies a maximum sound level of 85 dBA at 20 feet. We would respectfully request confirmation as to whether this sound requirement is strictly mandatory, or whether manufacturer-standard acoustic enclosure ratings typical for this class of equipment may be considered acceptable for evaluation.

A3. This is a safety request from operations. This is not a strict requirement.

Q4. Service Valve Configuration: The solicitation specifies three (3) 1-inch NPT service valves and one (1) 3/4-inch NPT service valve installed on the compressor package. We would appreciate clarification as to whether shipment of the required service valves with the compressor package for installation at commissioning would satisfy this requirement, or whether factory installation prior to shipment is mandatory.

A4. This can be fitted in in the field.

Q5. Sound Measurement Methodology: We would also be grateful if you could please confirm whether the specified sound level requirement of 85 dBA at 20 feet is to be measured under loaded operating conditions, and whether a particular testing standard or methodology is required for evaluation purposes.

A5: This is a safety request from operations. It will be measured with a calibrated decibel meter under standard operation.

Q6. Equivalent Equipment Consideration: Finally, we would respectfully request confirmation as to whether functionally equivalent trailer-mounted Class 0 oil-free diesel portable compressor platforms in the 1500 to 1600 CFM range may be considered acceptable if they satisfy the required airflow, pressure range, fuel capacity class, aftercooler configuration, cold-weather capability, and delivery requirements, but differ from the stated dimensional, acoustic, or ambient operating values.

A6. The unit will be removed from the trailer and placed on a barge. The trailer will be for when the unit needs to be serviced.
