About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the Lock and Dam 20 Metal Machinery Pit Grating federal contract opportunity. The Q&A addresses two specific technical clarifications about grating specifications. The first question resolves a potential misunderstanding about banding dimensions, with the government clarifying that the 1.5" x 1.5" banding notation on the original plans was a mistake, and banding bar size should match the main bar grating dimensions. The second question confirms that smooth grating is permitted in place of the originally specified serrated grating, and that no certificate of compliance is required by the Statement of Work (SOW) or Attachment.

LD20 Grating Questions and Answers
Q1: “Is there any particular reason 1.5” x 1.5” banding is requested in the drawings? The banding is just there to smooth the edges and does not add any strength. The project scope only calls out “edges to be banded.”
A1: Banding bar size shall match the dimensions of the main bar grating. The note that calls out the 1.5” x 1.5” banding on the plans provided to the contractor was a mistake.
Q2: Please advise if we supply a certificate of compliance as the only cert and this grating will be smooth.
A2: Smooth grating is allowed in place of the specified serrated grating in the plans. There is no certificate of compliance requirement in the SOW or Attachment.
