SUMMARY OF CHANGES
SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE
The following have been modified:
CONTRACTOR Q&A
Contractor question and answers:
Q1: What is the definition of “perfect coat chain”?
A1: A coating that has a sleeve or something else to prevent corrosion due to the outside elements.
Q2: What is the application description that this jib crane will be used in?
A2: To Hoist Rescue Boats in and out of water on the Mississippi River
Q3: Will this jib crane be used to lift objects from water?
A3: Yes, please see question two.
Q4: Will lifted items be moved by waves?
A4: Due to the environment the cranes will be used in, it is possible that items being listed or lowered will be moved by waves.
Q5: Will lifted items be subjected to currents?
A5: Being in the Mississippi River, it is possible that the lifted items may be subjected to river currents.
Q6: Will jib crane be dragging items over the ground or literally through the water?
A6: The cranes will not be dragging items over the ground or through the water.
Q7: Is there a requirement for a “boom lock” to prevent the boom from moving with wind?
A7: Yes, a boom lock is required.
Q8: The lifting speed of 40 FPM is not available. It is suspected that the 40 FPM requirement is for the “trolley” travel speed?
A8: 40 FPM was a misprint. It should be 14 FPM. The Statement of Work has been corrected to address this error.
Q9: The hoist lifting speed available is either 7 FPM, 14 FPM or 28 FPM.
A9: Please see question eight and the revised Statement of Work.
Q10: Are both the hoist and trolley speeds to be “single-speed” or “two-speed”?
A10: A single speed trolley is sufficient.
Q11: We recommend that the pushbutton pendant station provided be attached to an independent festooned system installed along the jib crane boom and not the hoist/trolly unit………is this acceptable?
A11: Yes, this is acceptable.
Q12: Does it need a step down transformer if rated for 460v-3-60 power? Is the supplied voltage not 460v-3-60?
A12: A step down transformer is not required. The supplied voltage at the Lock and Dam sites is typically 480 V/ 800 amp service.
Q13: Since the “suspender T” is mentioned, I know that they are looking for a Harrington Hoist. With that information, it causes a couple of concerns with the specifications. See below:
A13: Suspender T has been removed from the requirement. There is no brand name requirement.
Q14: The jib has 16’ HUB. This would only require 15’ of lift unless the jib is mounted on a platform, roughly 15’ above the ground.
A14: This Is height under the boom (HUB) which will be lifting life rescue boats out of the water 15 ft from Lock wall to the water or more depending on pool level. The Government requires a 30 ft lift.
Q15: Lifting speed: 40 fpm. 40 FPM is not a lifting speed option. Choose 7,14, or 28. 40 FPM will be the TROLLEY speed option.
A15: That is correct Lifting speed shall be 14 and the trolley speed will be 40 FPM
Q16: With 30’ of lift, this requires a steel chain container. At 15’ (see above), we can do canvas.
A16: Canvas requirement has been removed from the specifications
Q17: Standard pendant L-=15 ft. Just verify. This can be whatever it take to get to the operator.
A17: Correct.
Q18: 30 ft Power supply. This will be included in the “C-Track” festoon in paragraph b. There’s no need for the extra cord.
A18: The Government is not removing this requirement.
Q19: Do we need to include installation of the jib cranes?
A19: The Government will handle installation.
