The machine shall have a capacity of at least 400,000 lbs in compression. The machine shall be capable of testing 4 inch and 6 inch diameter concrete samples. The machine shall be powered by a standard 110v outlet. The fully assembled machine shall not exceed 72 inches in height, 45 inches in width, and 24 inches in depth. The machine shall have solid sides and a solid front safety guard door to enclose the concrete during testing to prevent injuries from flying concrete fragments. The back safety guard does not have to be solid, but needs to retain concrete fragments ½ inches or larger. The machine shall have a digital control box that displays the load, stress, rate of load, and type and size of the sample. The machine shall have a means to control accidental over-extension of the hydraulic ram. The machine shall be able to transfer all test results to a data collector.

Design Basis: Test Mark Industries product number CM-4000-ID Series Compression Testing Machine.

3.2 Provide 1 Sieve Shaker. The sieve shaker shall have the capability of processing samples in 8 inch or 12 inch sieves in accordance with ASTM D6913 Standard Test Methods for Particle size Distribution of Soils using Sieve Analysis. The sieve stacks shall be completely enclosed during shacking operations. The rotary sieve shaker shall have a digital countdown controller to display time test cycles. The entire enclosed unit shall be able to fit in a space that is 50 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and less than 72 inches in height. The unit shall be powered by a standard 110v outlet up to 20 amp.

Design Basis: Test Mark Industries product number CA-1515-S.

3.3 Provide 1 Constant/Falling Head Permeameter Set, 6 inches. The Constant/Falling Head Permeameter Set shall be able to run test ASTM D 2434 Standard Test Method for Permeability of Granular Soils (Constant Head) and ASTM D 5084 Standard Test Methods for Measurement of Hydraulic Conductivity of Saturated Porous Materials Using a Flexible Wall Permeameter. The constant/falling head permeameter set shall be able to determine the coefficient of permeability via the constant or falling-head method for laminar flow of water. The machine shall be able to provide a reservoir for constant head of water, machine shall have a way to prevent soil density changes and the cylinder shall be at least 6 inches diameter. Design Basis: Test Mark Industries product number

SA-2206.

3.4 Provide 1 California Bearing Ratio (CBR) Mechanical Loading Press. The CBR Mechanical Loading Press shall be in accordance with Paragraph 6 Apparatus in ASTM D1883 Standard Test Method for California Bearing Ratio of Laboratory-Compacted Soils. The load frame shall have a two-position mechanical jack, the press shall have a minimum load capacity of 10,000 lbf. Overall dimensions shall be less than 20 inches in width by 20 inches in depth, by 40 inches height. Design Basis: Test Mark Industries product number SA-2000 loading press.

3.5. Provide 1 Muffle Furnace. The muffle furnace shall be capable of meeting requirements outlined in ASTM D 2974, Standard Test Methods for Moisture, Ash, and Organic Matter of Peat and Other Organic Soils, for the furnace used for Test Method C and D. The furnace shall be capable of producing constant temperatures of between 400 to 480 degrees C, and constant temperatures between 722 to 788 degrees C. Both ranges are required to meet ASTM D 2974. The unit shall have a digital, single set-point display to read the temperature and be powered by 120 V, 60 Hz, 15 amps. The weight shall not exceed 35 pounds. The minimum chamber dimensions are 4" x 4" x 4”. The outside unit maximum dimension depth of the furnace shall be 28 inches, the maximum height shall be 22 inches, and the maximum width shall be 28 inches. Design Basis: Test Mark Industries product number CA -1480 muffle furnace.

3.6 Provide 1 duel mass stainless steel dynamic cone penetrometer apparatus as described by ASTM D6951 Standard Test Method for Use of the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer in Shallow Pavement Applications, with 100 disposable cones, one measuring stick, and one crushproof carrying case with handles. The DCP, cones, hammers, measuring rod, and tools shall meet requirements of the apparatus described in paragraph 5 of ASTM D6951. Items discussed in 5.4.5 rotary hammer drill or coring apparatus, 5.4.4 wet/dry vacuum, and 5.4.8 extraction jack, are not part of the DCP kit.

The carrying case shall be capable of holding all items required for the apparatus in one kit. Design Basis: Test Mark Industries product number SA-4040

3.7 Provide 1 Magnetic digital ruler which is capable of reading measurements from a dynamic cone penetrometer when used in accordance with ASTM D6951 Standard Test Method for Use of the Dynamic Cone Penetrometer in Shallow Pavement Applications.

The magnetic digital ruler shall be able to collect information during the DCP test and record the data. The device shall be capable of transporting data by USB port. The information collected shall be rod depth, number of blows, distance/blow, cumulative distance/blow, and cumulative blow/distance in SI and English. The magnetic digital ruler shall be battery-operated. Acceptable batteries are AAA, AA, C, D, and 9V.
