SECTION 26 00 00.00 26 Page 8
3.3 EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION
3.3.1 General
Provide and install all new cable and conduit to match the existing cable and conduit being replaced, as specified in this section, and in accordance with NFPA 70 , and IEEE C2 . Provide all necessary interconnections, services, and adjustments required for a complete and operational system. Submit updated drawings and schedules and replace the FIO drawings that are changed by this Contract.
3.3.2 Conduit
Install conduit, fittings, and outlet, junction, and pull boxes in compliance with NFPA 70 . Install wiring between equipment units or components in rigid, hot-dip galvanized steel conduit, except that liquid-tight flexible metal conduit may be used for short connections when so approved by the Contracting Officer. Securely mount and install conduit in a neat and workmanlike manner. Do not run conduit on top of girders or walkways. Do not run conduit underneath trolley girders. Make conduit turns using conduit fittings, in order that the conduit may fit close to the crane's framework. Thread all joints. Terminate conduit at equipment units or components using threading or lock nuts and bushings. Use conduit unions to join conduit where standard couplings cannot be used. Do not use running threads. Carefully ream ends of conduit. Make conduit joints and connections watertight, rustproof, and electrically conductive by applying a thread compound of colloidal copper and rust inhibitors. Thoroughly clean threads to remove all cutting oil before the compound is applied.
Provide separate conduit systems for power, control, and lighting circuits. Ground the entire conduit system. Do not use conduit size smaller than 3/4-inch. Complete all mechanical work of installing conduit prior to installing wire.
3.3.3 Wire and Cable
3.3.3.1 General
Install conductor connections to be terminated at existing terminal studs or terminal blocks. Do not make splices on any wiring in a panel or in a conduit.
3.3.3.2 Wire and Cable Markers
Identify single conductors and individual conductors of cables with non-metallic tube-type markers at each termination. Markers shall be sized to fit the wire and shall be uniform in position. Stamp wire markers with black wire numbers to match the existing numbers of the wires being replaced. Identify cable designations of multiple-conductor cables with embossed-aluminum band markers at each termination.
3.4 ELECTRICAL TESTS
3.4.1 General
a. Test each item as required below to determine if the item is free from electrical and mechanical defects and conforms to the requirements of these specifications.
b. Ensure test equipment and test methods used conform to the
SECTION 26 00 00.00 26 Page 9 applicable requirements of ANSI, IEEE and NEMA standards, and are to approval by the Government.
c. Ensure tests required herein are witnessed by the Contracting Officer, unless waived in writing.
d. Notify the Government two (2) weeks in advance of the date of test so that arrangements can be made for the Contracting Officer to be present.
e. Include the cost of performing all tests in the price of the bid.
3.4.2 Wiring Field Testing
After installation, prior to terminal connection, test each conductor as follows:
a. Perform a 1000-volt Insulation Resistance Test with all other conductors in each conduit grounded. Ensure the final insulation resistance of each conductor is not less than one (1) mega-ohm.
b. Perform a continuity test of each conductor from terminal-to-terminal and a phase identification check of power conductors.
Replace any length of wire and cable failing under the above tests. Field Wiring Test Reports will include; conductor identification markings, Insulation Resistance Test readings, and results of the continuity test.
Submit the Field Wiring Test Report to the Government on completion of the test.
3.4.3 Crane Acceptance Testing
Perform acceptance tests in accordance with SECTION 41 01 20.71 26 BRIDGE CRANE DATA, TESTING, AND TRAINING, paragraph ACCEPTANCE TESTS.
