AMENDMENT R0001: Q&A
1. Question: Is a bid bond required? Or only a Payment and Performance bond upon award?
Answer: No, a bid bond is not required. Yes, Performance and Payment bonds will be required before Notice to Proceed will be issued.
2. Question: What is the estimated award date?
Answer: Award will be made as soon as possible.
3. Question: Do we need special permissions to visit the site now?
Answer: Site visit permissions would be coordinated through the Quileute Tribe. A USACE-led site visit isn't feasible because a boat would be required to see the damage to the breakwater. The scope of the damage cannot be seen from the shore, so reference pictures have been provided to assist in providing a quote.
4. Question: Are any of the timbers to be replaced attached to the steel H Pile and or 12x12 waler? Photos only show missing/damage on the lower areas where they attach to the wood piles, but not explicitly stated.
Answer: At the time of the last inspection, none of the timber piles attached to the steel H piles needed to be replaced.
5. Question: Payment per LF; is this for a LF of one 3x12 plank or LF of wall repaired?
Answer: The linear feet of 3x12 planks used for the repair. This is calculated by multiplying the estimated quantity x unit price per LF.
6. Question: Payment per each for hardware replacement; is 1 each a single lag and washer or total lags and washers for one plank? Also, it isn’t clear if this hardware set is for the planks which attach by one lag and washer per wood pile, or for where they attach to the steel H-Pile and require something different.
Answer: The hardware is for plank attachment to timber piles. Each piece is a single lag and ogee washer.
7. Question: Specs 6 13 33-6 paragraph 3.1.3, a) references bolts and nuts, however plans show planks attached by one lag and one washer per wood pile. Please advise.
Answer: The lag bolts are considered bolts for the purposes of this spec. The last sentence regarding additional thread length and/or nuts can be disregarded as it only applies to the whalers and timber planking attached to the H-piles which are not anticipated to need replacement.
8. Question: Can you explain what an O.G. washer is? Is it an OGEE washer?
Answer: Yes, an OGEE washer is the same thing. A round washer with a large bearing surface so that the bolt head does not pull through the wood.
