The contractor shall furnish and install the 18-inch SSP at grade placement per COR direction. The contractor shall be required to undertake the necessary measures to ensure a proper placement area for SSP.
This includes possible foundation de-watering, over excavation with backfill of impervious material and potential use of flowable fill to ensure a sound placement area for SSP. All pipe sections shall be welded joints utilizing a 3-pass welding seam (at pipe connecting ends & 1 overlapping pass from centerline of joint weld on each side). All welded joint sections shall be connected (banded) with a 6-inch wide by 24-inch long flat metal strip evenly spaced welded on either side of welded joint (12" on each side of welded joint). A total of four (4) connecting strips shall be welded and symmetrically spaced around pipe joint (metal strip on top, bottom & each side of SSP). Flat metal strip thickness shall be same thickness as steel pipe. The contractor shall conduct necessary inlet and outlet drainage ditch excavation to ensure positive drainage into, through and exiting installed pipe. The contractor shall install one anti-seep collar on SSP (see Drawing C-3).

The height of levee embankment shall be increased by 5% tapering to no increase in height at the toe of the embankment. The 5% height requirement cannot be exceeded by greater than two tenths of a foot (0.20'). Within setback reach the contractor shall furnish and install 100-linear feet of 18-inch diameter SSP and 70-linear feet of 16-inch diameter SSP. (both with 0.375" wall thickness and conforming to A252 Grade 3 material standard), one anti-seep collar for each pipe and one F- 25sb Model Waterman medium duty 18-inch flap gate, and one F-25sb Model Waterman medium duty 16-inch flap gate, or approved equals. Prior to construction of landward levee setback, the contractor shall excavate and remove an existing pipe within crossing and return to Sponsor. Consult COR for exact location of pipe.
Random borrow for repairs consists of stock piled sand deposition materials and are cross-hatched areas generally positioned and are as shown on Site Map B-13. Some minor clearing/grubbing of timber and removal of heavy herbaceous vegetation within borrow area is to be expected.
Removal operations are to commence on the western most stock pile (approx. 1.0 AC), at the western most end of stock pile. Stock piled materials to be removed down to the surrounding agricultural lands found at perimeter limits of the landward side of stock pile and removed so as to not retain/pond water. Borrow operations not to impact existing riverward levee system. In the transport of random borrow materials the contractor may utilize one of the travel haul routes as shown on Site Map B-13 (see additional requirements below). See Drawing C-2 for levee random fill zone. River Road Bridge Crossing Route: The contractor shall comply, and not exceed, the Platte County bridge load limits when hauling materials to repair locations.
Sugar Creek Crossing Route: The contractor shall comply with Section 404 Clean Water Act Nationwide 13 requirements for Minor Road Crossing Fills in the construction/utilization of a crossing within Sugar Creek when hauling materials to repair locations. Upon completion of hauling operations the contractor shall restore crossing location per same requirements. All necessary costs associated with crossing construction/removal to be borne by the contractor.

Existing levee segments shall be utilized and exhausted first, prior to borrow excavation within remaining designated borrow area. Additional impervious borrow shall be obtained and commences 20-feet from the landward levee setback riverside toe line, on a 1' vertical on 3' horizontal slope, with material removed in an even fashion over entire designated area, with positive drainage away from levee and draining to scour feature. Should sufficient borrow not be available to complete repairs, remaining borrow is to be obtained from impervious borrow areas utilized/described for other repairs and is as shown on Site Maps B-10 or B-12. See Drawing C-2 for levee impervious fill zone.
Pipe Installation: The contractor shall install required 18-inch diameter and 16-inch diameter SSP's at location and grade placement per COR direction. The contractor shall be required undertake the necessary measures to ensure a proper placement area for SSP. This includes possible foundation de-watering, over excavation with backfill of impervious material and potential use of flowable fill to ensure a sound placement area for SSP's. All pipe sections shall be welded joints utilizing a 3-pass welding seam (i.e. at pipe connecting ends & 1 overlapping pass from centerline of joint weld on each side). All welded joint sections shall be connected (banded) with a 6-inch wide by 24-inch long flat metal strip evenly spaced welded on either side of welded joint (12" on each side of welded joint). A total of four (4) connecting strips shall be welded and symmetrically spaced around pipe joint (i.e. metal strip on top, bottom & each side of SSP). Flat metal strip thickness shall be same thickness as steel pipe. The contractor shall excavate an outlet ditch from installed end section of SSP's, with positive drainage into Sugar Creek. Outlet ditch configuration shall have a 4' wide flat bottom, with 1' vertical on 2' horizontal side slopes. Within outlet ditch for 18-inch SSP the contractor shall excavate an approximate 6' deep trench, 10' long (as measured from SSP outlet end), and 10' wide (5' either side of ditch centerline), and place approximately 40 tons of quarry-run-stone (Sponsor furnished & stock piled near River Road bridge crossing - approx. sta. 88+81) within excavated trench. Excavated materials can be utilized for impervious borrow fill. The contractor shall also install one anti-seep collar on each SSP, (see Drawing C-3).
