RE: W912DQ-15-R-1049 – Drill Rig Solicitation

Questions From Contractors and USACE Responses – August 27, 2015

In section 1.1, it appears that you are asking for a hydraulic chuck for up to 6"casing as well as rotary percussion hammer and a direct push hammer on the drill. Our open spindle is 3-1/2" and stroke is 70"to 72". Will this be sufficient for the types of drilling you will be doing?

USACE Response: No, need to drive 6 inch casing and a 72 inch stroke does not provide room for inner barrel sampler without needless re-positioning of the rig.

Is the "drill head rod clamp" a hydraulic chuck?

USACE Response: No, it is not a hydraulic chuck.

What is a "head clamp stationary jaw"?

USACE Response: It is a clamp to jack variable diameter casing up to 6 inches out of the ground.

How deep will you require for hollow stem augers?

USACE Response: + or - 200 ft with 6.25 inch augers

In Section 5.1, you specify a track width of less than 18 inches. Our track undercarriage has 24"wide tracks. Would this be acceptable?

USACE Response: Yes

In Section 5.10, you specify a telescoping mast. Will a fixed length mast be acceptable?

USACE Response: No we need low clearance capability.

In Section 5.14, you specify an automatic SPT hammer. You also ask for a nitrogen charge kit. Is this for the SPT hammer?

USACE Response: No, it is for a casing hammer.

Is there a specific model drill rig that this specification describes?

USACE Response: If your company manufactures a rig that meets requirements, please submit a bid.
