SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE

AMENDMENT 0001 CHANGES

SUBJECT: Amendment No. 0001 to Specifications and Drawings for Construction of Missouri River Levee L550 - Missouri River Left Bank & Rock Creek Right Bank Flood Damage Repair Project, Atchison County, MO

1. The specifications and drawings for subject project are hereby modified as follows (revise all specification indices, attachment lists, and drawing indices accordingly).

a. Specifications. (Descriptive Changes.)

(1) Section 31 00 00 Page 4, paragraph 1.4, under SD-01 delete the Dewatering Plan and the subsequent paragraph and substitute the following:

“Dewatering Plan; G-DO

Submit a Dewatering Plan for review and approval a minimum of 15 days prior to the start of dewatering activities.

The Contractor shall be responsible for appropriately dewatering the drainage ditch, within the limits of construction to approximately 18 inches below the bottom of ditch design grades shown on the drawings, or to the depth required to complete the required construction activities. Water flowing within the ditch shall be appropriately handled prior to entering the construction area. Note that in addition to other dewatering techniques, pumping from the adjacent relief wells will be permitted as long as it is determined that the proposed method will not damage the relief wells.

Discharge water may be pumped through the interior drainage structure or over the top of the levee. If the discharge lines are placed over the levee they shall be placed inside of a protective casing pipe on the levee crest with soil and/or gravel ramps placed at a minimum 1V:10H slopes at the casing pipe to allow for traffic flow along the levee.

The end of the discharge pipe shall extend into Rock Creek with a defuser, or some other method, on the end of the line to assure that no channel erosion or bankline scour takes place. Note that boring logs for three relief wells located adjacent to the drainage ditch are provided on the drawings for informational purposes of the foundation materials. In addition, a pertinent data table of ten relief wells located in the vicinity of the drainage ditch construction, relief well installation drawings, and pump test results are provided as an attachment to this specification. Also note that the drainage area for the drainage ditch is approximately 4,300 acres (5.4 square miles).”

(2) Section 33 40 00 Page 10, paragraph 3.3.2.1, delete the paragraph and substitute the following:

“3.3.2.1 Design Data

The contractor shall be responsible for calculating uplift forces on the pipe incurred by the placement of flowable fill and designing a system to restrain the pipe until the flowable fill has cured. Submit all calculations and a detailed description of the anchoring system along with any manufacturers data. The pipe anchorage system shall be designed to be left in place permanently, and designed as a means of resisting seepage and water uplift forces equal to 1,600 pounds per linear foot of pipe. The anchorage system shall be corrosion resistant through material selection or coatings.”
