F. Questions

- Will dry ice blasting be permitted to clean armor angles?

- Yes- the goal for cleaning the armor angles is to remove any loosely adhered oxidation and contaminants. A white metal finish is not required, but the contractor must provide a smooth surface free of dirt and other contaminants.

- Is the trench drain a pre-fab off the shelf item?

- No – the trench drain components will have to be fabricated to fit and shall be placed at the required slope to drain to the contractor supplied and installed drain tubes.

Q & A Page 5

- How deep is the asphalt around the drains for option 3?

- There are several types of drains, with some being dimensioned different than others. Refer to sheet CG-103 for a location map of the typical drain types. Refer to sheet R-008 for dimensions of the ‘drain pockets’ around drain types A, B, C, and D. Also, refer to sheet R-009 for dimensions of the ‘drain pockets’ around drain types E, F, and J.

- What is the required depth of sealant removal on the rake deck?

- Sealant shall be removed to a depth of 1” for all joints included under base bid item #3.

- Could new trench drain cover plates be provided rather than heat straightening the existing ones?

- No, the contractor shall use the existing material and shall modify to fit.

- Is an asbestos test result available for this project?

Test results can be found at the end of specification section 02 82 14.00 10. Some items were tested positive for asbestos while other similar items did not. Due to variability in results, USACE has assumed all items to be positive for asbestos. The contractor may choose to test any items as desired. All testing will be done at the Contractor’s expense.

- What is the distance from the access ledge to the interior face of the curtain wall where the trench drains are?

- Refer to “END ELEVATION” details on sheet R-005

- What is the typical water depth around the intake structure?

- As shown on the details on sheet S-001, the elevation at the bottom of the intake structure is

1227 feet. The water level changes throughout the year and varies due to several factors.

- Summer pool elevations normally range from 1355’ to 1365’ above msl. During the fall draw down (apprx. September thru November), pool elevations are normally between 1337’ and 1355’ above msl.

- The following link can be used to see historical water level fluctuation records http://www.nwd-mr.usace.army.mil/rcc/projdata/ftra.pdf

- These values are approximate and are in no way guaranteed. Levels fluctuate based on rain/flooding conditions and other uncontrollable and various factors. Contractor may use the above numbers as an average and/or basis for their bid, but shall be aware that such conditions are in no way guaranteed by the government.

- What is the total burden cost per hour for additional use over 8 hours of the crane?

- Operating the crane using USACE staff will require 2 men at $100 per man-hour.
