SUMMARY OF CHANGES

SECTION SF 30 - BLOCK 14 CONTINUATION PAGE

The following have been added by full text:

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS (Q&A)

Questions & Answers (Q&A) Bonneville Thrust Bearing Coolers

A. As referenced on the solicitation drawing W57780070645_R3, are the Component List and Final Assy drawings available (Dwg Nos 3237114 and 4110817 respectively)?

No, those drawings are not available.

B. Questions regarding Paragraph 05. Specifications:

1. Tube joints shall be rolled and brazed.

1.1. The “SPLIT” plates can have rolled tube joint connections but the Headers are not through holes so they cannot be rolled, only brazed. Can the rolling requirement for the steel pipe be eliminated, leaving brazing as the sole mechanical retention method?

Rolling requirement for the header is not required. Tube joints shall be rolled and brazed per the specification.

1.2. Lubricant must be used when rolling tubes. Traces of the lubricant will migrate into the tube joints and would contaminate any subsequent brazing. Can the rolling requirement be eliminated from the “SPLIT” plates?

The rolling requirement is only for the tube joints.

1.3. Brazing 90/10 CuNi tubes to carbon steel can be susceptible to galvanic corrosion. The exterior steel surfaces are protected from corrosion with the Glyptal 1202 paint. Are there any requirements for tube joint corrosion protection?

No.

2. All carbon steel surfaces coated with Glyptal 1202.

2.1. Can Glyptal 1201 (Red) Insulating Coating be used instead of the Glyptal 1202 (Clear) Insulating Varnish? Both have excellent oil resistance; Glyptal 1201 is used in the bearing coolers for Hoover Dam.

Glyptal 1202 shall be used.

3. The headers shall be constructed of 2” Schedule 40 carbon steel pipe, ASTM A106 Grade B.

3.1. The available wall thickness for brazing the tubes to the headers for 2” schedule 40 pipe is .154”.

Schedule 80 pipe offers a .218” wall thickness, for more support. The flow area for schedule 80 pipe is still more than the combined 11 tubes. Can schedule 80 pipe be substituted for the headers?

Schedule 80 pipe is acceptable as long as all dimensions line up with drawing in construction of header.

4. Fins shall be 1.5” OD x 0.049” nominal thickness, aluminum 1100 fin, 9 fins per inch.

4.1. Normal 1100 aluminum fins are .020”-.030” thick to allow for forming, is the specified .049” fin thickness correct or should it be thinner?

Dimensions shall be revised to 1.375 “ OD and aluminum fins shall be 0.02” nominal thickness.

4.2. There is a dimensional discrepancy in the drawing (see attached). The largest fin diameter would be 1.375”, less than the specified 1.5”. Should the frame dimensions be adjusted to maintain the 1.5” fin diameter or the fin diameter be changed to 1.375” to fit the frame?

Dimensions shall be revised to 1.375 “ OD

5. Provide eight complete Thrust bearing oil coolers assemblies based on dimensions shown in Thrust Bearing

Oil Cooler, Drawing No. W57780070645_R3

5.1. The drawing shows the “Removable Baffle Cover” supplied by GE Co. Does this item need to be included in the proposal or is it already installed in the unit?

Removable Baffle is not a part of this solicitation.

C. A number of finer details that we will need for actual production. Some of the details needing clarification include:

- Split plate coupling - we are assuming each plate is scalloped and screwed together?

Heat exchanger to be manufactured per the original drawing. Contractor is free to use desired methods to replicate drawing and meet the specification. Plates shall be bolted together.

- Tube spacers/support design

See Section A-A on the drawing which details the bracket design.
