Jetty Industry Day Notes
Caleb Meyer
9/7/18
MCR South – 1st Presentation
Question: What are the density and unit weights of the armor stoners?
Answer: Shown in the next slide of the presentation
Question from Drew: Has it been discussed whether a breasting barge could be used in lieu of sheet piling?
Answer: The MOLF was designed to check for marine animal protection compliance. The limiting factor is environmental permits. The contractor can elect to do something different so long as it wills within acceptable regulation.
Comment from Brett: Based on prior experience with roads, there is a lot of risk to the contractor. It would be better if it wasn’t just a lump sum payment. Requests for different payment options to be available to reduce risk.
Question from Jamie: Will this contract be bid out as best value or low price procurement?
Answer: We are not discussing contracting details at this time, submit a bidders inquiry.
Question from Brent: Past contract requirements limited contractors by requiring the contract to have worked on a jetty within recent years, this disqualifies many bidders. This also limits crane operators. It’s hard to find a crane operator with 10 years of jetty experience. Would it be possible to have some sort of test on land for the crane operator to demonstrate their skill instead of requiring years of experience?
Answer: We can look into that.
Port Orford - 2nd Presentation
No questions or comments.
Tillamook – 3rd Presentation
Question: Where’s the marine landing?
Answer: Was shown on the slides using the red pointer.
Coos Bay – 4th Presentation
Question: Is 192 density correct on B stone?
Answer: Yes, that is what is currently proposed. This isn’t finalized.
Overall questions or comments
Question from Brett: Do you guys test the current jetty rocks? How does this affect restacking? Some of the rocks there are sandstone.
Answer 1: We are exploring ways to better interlock the rocks, the old ones with the new ones, so as to avoid needing to replace the old ones.
Answer 2: MCR South jetty will require full replacement of some areas where there are no interlocking rocks currently.
Question: Is the bid for all of the jetty’s or just per?
Answer: Per jetty.
