1.6.2 Dislodged Floating Island Modules
There are approximately 12 dislodged island modules floating on the lake at separate locations. These dislodged modules are to be removed from the lake and disposed offsite.
1.6.3 Floating Dock and Bird Blind
There is a bird blind, secured to a floating platform dock, that has become separated from the island and is currently beached along the lake shoreline.
The bird blind is 8 feet by 10 feet by 8 feet high and was constructed with plywood sheets on 2 x 4 framing, and a metal roof. The floating dock is a 12-foot by 16-foot wooden plank platform on plastic floats. These items are to be removed from the lake and disposed offsite.
PART 2 PRODUCTS - NOT USED
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXISTING FACILITIES TO BE REMOVED
3.1.1 General Requirements
a. Verify that structures to be demolished, deconstructed, or removed have been located.
b. Dismantled and removed materials are to be separated, set aside, and prepared as specified, and stored or delivered to a collection point for reuse, recycling, or other disposal, as specified.
c. Demolish and deconstruct structures in a manner that minimizes loss of materials into the lake.
3.1.2 Nesting Substrate
a. It is unknown how much of the nesting substrate will be salvageable because of the compromised condition of the floating island. For bidding purposes only, assume at least 380 cubic yards of the nesting substrate can be salvaged for reuse as nesting material on the new island. Additional material may be able to be salvaged.
b. Carefully remove substrate from existing island to avoid loss into lake and segregate and store material to prevent mixing with other materials.

SECTION 31 00 00.00 25 Page 1
Contractor must conduct a site evaluation.
3.2 TOLERANCES
Horizontal tolerances for the island fill and nesting substrate are plus or minus 2 feet. Horizontal tolerances for the riprap are plus 1 foot and minus 0 foot. Vertical tolerances are as indicated in the individual sections.
3.3 ISLAND FILL AND RIPRAP CONSTRUCTION BELOW WATER SURFACE
a. Island fill (island core) placement below the water surface must be performed in the outward direction from the initial point of fill placement, maintaining the same direction so that the leading edge of fill placement will displace the very soft, lake bottom sediment as the fill material is dumped into water. Toothless bucket of an excavator, or similar means, may be used to attempt to displace the very soft, lakebed sediment before fill placement. The outer slope of the island fill underwater may be left at the angle of repose of the material in water.
b. After the island fill has reached the outer extent of the island, place geotextile underwater following the requirements in OSSC Section
00350.41 Geotextile Installation Requirements. After the geotextile is placed, place the riprap (island armor) on it as soon as possible according to the requirements for Loose Riprap as specified in OSSC Section 00390 - Riprap Protection. Do not place geotextile more than 50 feet ahead of placed riprap. The outer slope of the riprap placed underwater may be left at the angle of repose of the material in water.
3.4 ISLAND FILL AND RIPRAP CONSTRUCTION ABOVE WATER SURFACE
Place island fill and riprap above water to the lines and grades shown on the plans. Place island fill in horizontal layers with a maximum thickness of 3 feet using tracked equipment, providing uniform compaction so that future differential settlement may be avoided. Place geotextile on the finished side slopes of the island fill according to the requirements in OSSC Section 00350 Geosynthetic Installation. Place riprap on geotextile according to the requirements for Loose Riprap as specified in OSSC Section 00390 - Riprap Protection. The riprap surface must be tamped with an excavator bucket or by similar approved methods. A tolerance of plus or minus 6 inches will be allowed for riprap during placement, provided the average thickness is as specified on the plans. The finished surface elevation of the top of island fill is 0.5 feet higher at the center than at the perimeter of the island to accommodate greater future settlement at the center. Provide a smooth graded slope for the finished island fill surface before placing nesting substrate.
3.5 GROUTED RIPRAP CONSTRUCTION
Construct grouted riprap according to the details shown on the plans and the requirements in OSSC Section 00390 - Riprap Protection with the following additional requirements:
a. Grout height must be 21 inches from the island fill, measured normal to the slope. A tolerance of plus 3 inches and minus 0 inches will be allowed for the grout height.
b. Place grout in a single lift instead of multiple lifts of 12 inches
