Holt Lock Monolith R 14 Restoration Industry As of: 04 September 2024
Project Manager: Scott Ellzey, P.E.
.59 Holt Lock Monolith R14 Background
On 29 May 2024, project staff reported new crack had formed in the upstream bulkhead slot and in the basement of the lock control station and existing cracks were experiencing greater amounts of water intrusion than had been previously observed
Engineers arrived on site and inspected the monolith 31 May. Available evidence suggested that the lock wall monolith was cracked along its length.
The lock was closed to navigation traffic effective 21 June based on structural analyses that showed the monolith 14R failed stability criterion during filling and emptying cycles.
