1.2 WORK INCLUDED

This Specification section describes the Project location and access, existing facilities, the Contractor's use of the premises, Project occupancy, and the work to be performed by the Contractor. The description of the work to be performed that is provided herein is intended to be a general overview and does not include all the work actually required under the Contract.

1.3 TYPE OF CONTRACT

This Contract consists of Job and Unit Rate Bid Schedule Items.

1.4 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

1.4.1 Project Description

The Marysville Ring Levee (MRL) Phase 2A North project is to strengthen the levee by means of the seepage cutoff wall on the riverside toe of the levee, backfill excavated levee slope with materials as show on plan sheet C-501. The cutoff wall is approximately 1200 lineal feet (LF)and starts near station 195+68 (north of 5th Street bridge) and ends near station 208+11. The 5th Street Bridge area of the levee will not need cutoff wall since the landside berm provides sufficient seepage control per geotechnical analysis.

Phase 2A levee improvements include the following:

a. Provide a seepage cutoff wall. Connect cutoff wall to existing cutoff wall starting at levee alignment station (STA) 195+68 and ending at STA 208+11. The depth of the cutoff wall under this contract is approximately 37 feet, and will be constructed on the riverside toe of the levee. The depth of the existing cutoff wall is approximately 37 feet and the depth of the new cutoff wall is also approximately 37 feet.

b. Reconstruct the levee crown and slope with specific fill materials such that the levee crown extends 10 feet towards the river side from the levee alignment near the center of levee crown. The levee alignment is shown in details on sheet C-501. The riverside slope will be of 3:1.

01 11 00 - 2

For clarity, the 10 feet distance is from the levee alignment near the center of the levee crown, as shown on the sheets.

c. Remove stone and concrete rubble on levee embankment within the cutoff wall alignments.

d. Saw-cut, remove and replace the asphalt concrete paved road on the levee crown back to the existing edge of pavement.

e. Provide erosion control measures and seed the levee, including contractor disturbed areas.

f. Provide suitable borrow material needed for the construction of levee embankment and widening by excavation and transport.

g. Temporarily remove and reconstruct the upper portion of bike trail and safety rail to connect the existing rails as shown on the plan.

1.4.2 Location

The MRL Phase 2A North project is located in Yuba County, about 1,800 feet east from the left bank of the Feather River, just north of the 5th Street Bridge and south of the 10th Street Bridge (Highway 20).

1.5 EXISTING FACILITIES

Existing facilities are shown on the Plans to the extent known.

1.6 CONTRACTOR'S USE OF THE PREMISES

In addition to requirements presented elsewhere on the Plans and in the Specifications, adhere to the following requirements:

a. Take charge and care of, and bear the risk of damage to, the Project until its completion and final acceptance.

c. Protect and do not disturb existing facilities, or access thereto, which are not in the work area or are in the work area and can be avoided.

d. Store and protect materials and equipment as recommended by the manufacturer or required by applicable codes and standards, to guarantee preservation of quality, appearance, and suitability for the Project. Store them to facilitate inspection by the Contracting Officer. Do not store materials on the embankment slopes.

e. The Contracting Officer will provide the lands, easements, and rights-of-way, or other right-to-enter and work on lands shown on the Plans. Nothing herein contained and nothing marked on the Plans, shall be interpreted as giving the Contractor exclusive occupancy of the lands, easements, or rights-of-way provided by the USACE.

f. The work areas and the areas for the Contractor's use are shown on the Plans.

g. Restore, at own expense, all disturbed storage and work areas to a

01 11 00 - 3 condition similar to those existing prior to construction or improved, except where other surfacing or treatment is required by the Plans or Specifications.

1.7 WORK TO BE PERFORMED BY THE CONTRACTOR

Construction of the Project consists, in general, of the following activities:

a. Perform mobilization, demobilization, and Contract administration.

b. Provide erosion and sediment control and storm water pollution prevention, and comply with all environmental controls and requirements related to operations as specified, in Project licenses and permits obtained by the Government, and as specified elsewhere in the Specifications.

c. Perform construction surveying and construction quality control.

d. Provide all required equipment, personnel, and materials to construct the Project as required by the Plans and Specifications, and to complete the Project in accordance with the Contract schedule.

e. Provide all required temporary facilities, utilities, and offices required to complete the work.

f. Provide water for construction from available sources, including pumping, piping, hauling, and storage that may be required, and paying all fees and costs associated with developing the water supply, including pumping energy costs if wells are used.

1.8 SCHEDULE CONSTRAINTS

The flood season and nonpermissible work period for the two waterways in this area is November 1 through April 15 as shown in 23 CCR 112 Table 8.1 - Regulated Stream and Nonpermissible Work Periods.
