The materials should conform to the following requirements.

Physical Test Test Value Test Method Specification

Tensile Strength 2500 psi (min.) ASTM D412

Elongation at Break 450% (min.) ASTM D412

300% Modulus 900 psi (min.) ASTM D412

Durometer Hardness (Shore Type A)

60 to 70 ASTM D2240

*Water Absorption 5% by weight (max.) ASTM D471

Compression Set 30% (max.) ASTM D395

Tensile Strength after aging 48 hours

80% (min.) of Tensile Strength

ASTM D572

* The “Water Absorption” test shall be performed with distilled water. The washed specimen shall be blotted dry with filter paper or other absorbent material and suspended by means of small glass rods in the oven at a temperature of 70 degrees plus or minus 2 degrees C. for 22 plus or minus ¼ hours. The specimen shall be removed, allowed to cool to room temperature in air, weighed, and the weight recorded to the nearest 1 mg. as W1 (W1 defined in ASTM D471). The immersion temperature shall be 70 degrees plus or minus 1 degree C. and the duration shall be 166 hours.

3. WORKMANSHIP REQUIREMENTS. All workmanship shall be of the highest grade in accordance with the best modern practices to conform to the specifications for the item to be furnished.

All similar parts shall be interchangeable.

3.1. Dimensions and Tolerances. The Rubber Seals shall be of the cross-sections shown on the attached drawings and within the tolerances indicated. The surface of each side shall be finished to a smooth, even surface, all parts of which shall lie in the same plane throughout the length of each piece.

3.2. Protection of Finished Work. All finished surfaces shall be protected by suitable means. Store rubber seals in a place which permits free circulation of air, maintains a temperature of 70 degrees F or less, and prevents the rubber from being exposed to the direct rays of the sun. Keep rubber seals free of oils, grease, and other materials which would deteriorate the rubber. Do not distort rubber seals during handling.

4. CERTIFICATION OF COMPLIANCE. Certificates of compliance shall be submitted for all items demonstrating compliance of materials with the specification requirements. The certificate(s) shall verify that the supplied material complies with the established standards for physical and chemical properties for the material specified. Each certification shall be signed by an official authorized to certify on behalf of the manufacturing company and shall contain the name and address of the contractor, the contract number and the quantity and date(s) of shipment or delivery to which the certifications apply.

4.1. Material Test Reports. Material Certification testing shall be performed and reports shall be submitted for all items supplied under the contract. The reports shall include a description of material, specifications, chemical properties and mechanical properties of the material used to manufacture the contract parts.

Information shall be included which renders the reports identifiable and traceable with the specific parts manufactured for the contract.

5. MARKING REQUIREMENTS. Each Rubber Seal shall be legibly marked/stenciled with the item number and title name shown on the drawings. The packaging for seals shall also be marked with the item numbers and titles included in each package.
