SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 GENERAL INFORMATION

A large scour hole has been found downstream of the dam apron. This hole extends approximately 120-130 feet from the hydropower plant intake towards the lock. To repair the scour, filter fabric will be installed and R-8 stone will be placed on top of the filter fabric on a 2 to 1 slope downstream and away from the dam as indicated on the drawings provided, or as directed by the Government. Derrick stone will be placed on top of the R-8 to complete the scour protection. Some probing and dredging (pre-excavation) of existing material will be necessary to place the derrick stone. The Contractor will be required to take initial and final soundings in the work area. The Contractor shall provide all necessary floating plant equipment, labor, and supplies to perform the work.

1.1 SCOPE OF WORK

The project design is based on the November 2008 dive inspection findings.

Conditions encountered during construction may require modification of the design. Changes shall be made with the approval of the Contracting Officer. A general procedure is shown on the contract drawings, however, the Contractor is cautioned that extreme care must be taken when working on or around this structure. The quantities shown on the Bid Schedule are based on the available soundings.

1.1.1 Scour Protection

Scour protection consisting of filter fabric and stone shall be placed on grade downstream of the dam apron as shown on the drawings. Pre-excavation will be required to create a level area along the apron and a toe at the downstream end of the scour protection. The filter fabric will then be installed and R-8 stone placed on top of the filter fabric. Derrick stone shall be placed on top of the R-8 stone to bring the grade up to the original design contours as shown in the drawings.
