Salient Characteristics for Breathing Air Cascade System

1. The system must be one piece but be adjustable in order to fit through a standard 36” doorway if need be. This one piece will house the 4 each ASME code stamped air cylinders

(cascades) within the one piece system.

2. The compressor systems must be 5 stage system, powered by a 20 horse power or bigger electric motor and charge at a rate of 25 SCFM or greater. The compressor must be air cooled and oiled lubricated. The system will need some sort of intercooler after each stage of compression; these aftercoolers should be able to cool the discharged air to within 15 to 20 degree Fahrenheit of ambient temperature.

3. The system will require a three phase electric motor 208 VAC/60 Hz and needs to be of open drip‐proof (ODP) design. The power of this motor will be transferred over to the compressor via a V‐belt drive system.

3. The system must come with 4 each Cascade bottles, stamped IAW Section VIII of the ASME

Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The bottles will have a 3:1 safety factor at 6000 PSIG and each bottle will have a capacity of 490 cubic feet or greater at 6000 PSIG. These bottles shall be installed IAW 29 CFR 1910.169 and they shall be installed upright as to make it easy to inspect these bottles in the completed system. Each bottle will have a manual drain valve, an isolation valve and a safety relief valve. These valves need to be placed somewhere within the system so it makes it easy to perform maintenance and periodic inspections on the system itself!

4. The containment fill station must be front loading, have three positions and must be totally enclosed when the filling process is going on. Each cylinder holder will have some kind of liner to prevent scuffing of the SCBA bottles that are being filled. For safety purposes the door must have an interlock system that will prevent the refilling of the SCBA bottles unless the door is both closed and locked/secured! When the door is open the fill station must be at between 42 and 48 degree angle open to the operator for unobstructed access to the SCBA bottles when loading and unloading. This must be able to hold bottles up to 31” high including the valve, boot and fill yoke.

5. Fill control/instrument panel shall be installed on the front of the station and have a non‐ glare panel for easy seeing onto the panel itself. The panel needs to be on a hinge system for easy accessibility and maintenance of the system itself. The control panel shall be factory piped for four storage banks/cascades/bottles and also designed to fill the three SCBA bottles either independently or simultaneously.

6. The electrical control and instrument panel needs to have the following features:

‐needs a magnetic motor starter that will start the system across‐the‐line.

‐fused transformer and PLC controller

‐built IAW UL 508A

‐must have a multi‐colored touch screen display

‐Emergency Stop button

‐Must have a clock that show’s real time to include time and date

‐Compressor on/off point on the screen

‐Digital display of compressor final pressure, compressor oil pressure, current compressor run time and final separator cycle count

‐Must have an audio alarm when the compressors temperature reaches to high and an auto shutdown in the event it’s not shut down manually

‐Must have full support of the Automatic Condensate Drain system to include set points and password protect to prevent tampering. This should show/display of time of next ACD cycle and an alarm when the condensate drain reservoir is full

‐An alarm when filters get to much moisture in them

‐Should have some sort of maintenance timer to give displays of all needed preventive maintenance schedules.

‐Motor overload alarm system

‐Needs to have an hour meter that is non‐resettable

‐Should have a recoverable run and alarm history

7. Purification System shall purify high pressure air to a quality that meets or exceeds the requirements outlined in CGA Pamphlet G‐7, Compressed Air for Human Respiration and ANSI/CGA G 7.1, Commodity Specification for Air, Grade E. The chambers have to have a working pressure of 6000 PGIG to meet the pressure coming through the lines. A bleed valve shall be provided to vent the purification system to help facilitate the replacement of the filters/cartridges.

8. Training package and parts: Any system must come with a training package to show how to maintain and repair every aspect of the system. Furthermore, the manufacture or their distributors will sell all needed/necessary parts to maintain and/or repair their product.

Manufacture must also guarantee that parts order can be obtained within 96 hours with minor exceptions on major components and even those should have a guarantee of 2 weeks or less once an order is made.
