INVASIVE PLANTS/PEST MANAGEMENT

Roger Peyton 719-524-5395 Tammy Craig 719-526-1329

In order to prevent the spread of invasive species, equipment brought to the site shall be clean and free of the seeds, roots, or vegetative parts of invasive weeds. Likewise if noxious weeds are present on the site, equipment used on site must be cleaned thoroughly prior to moving to other locations. Minimize soil disturbances that could cause an increase of weedy vegetation. Any imported soils, gravels, and fill need to be from sources free of invasive species. If possible, separately stockpile topsoil not infested with noxious weeds and return to top during remediation. Ensure that any removed soils with invasive species present are buried as deep as possible and covered with 18 inches of uncontaminated soils, or hauled to appropriate disposal locations where there is no concern about the propagation of invasive species from seeds or roots present in the debris. Utilize native plants for any vegetative restoration work (do not use crested wheatgrass which may be listed in outdated seed mix lists). Ensure that any mulches, soils, and/or seed sources used are certified to be free of federal and Colorado noxious weeds. Please contact the Installation Pest Management Coordinator at 719-217-4887, if there are any questions regarding seed mixes or the identification/management of invasive plants.

WATERSHEDS/WETLANDS/404

Roger Peyton 719-524-5395 Bridgette Glass 719-526-1685

Magnesium chloride has been shown to reduce abundance and diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates in streams (Katalik et al 2017). Because of this, my recommendation is to not apply magnesium chloride within 20 ft of any creek or drainage (for example within 20 ft from edge of low water crossing) if it is dry and within 30 ft of any creek or drainage if it is wet at the time of magnesium chloride application.

WILDLIFE

Anna Joy Lehmicke 719-526-3975

No wildlife concerns.
