QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR SOLICITATION: W911QX-22-Q-0085: A Series of Fabricated Injection Molds compatible with the Government-owned Nissei FNX110-18A Injection Molding Unit
QUESTION 1 - For CLIN 0008-- set up and sampling cost for all tools, what resin type do they (vendors) need to purchase for the tool sample?
ANSWER: Ideally it would be Polyphenylsulphone (PPSU) or Polyetherimide (PEI, also known as Ultem). Any injection molding grade of either of those two resin types would be acceptable.
QUESTION 2 - I'm questioning the wording on this Please see below questions:
CLIN 0003 – Tensil Bar Type V Tooling – Design & build a two (2) cavity mold 8” x 5” MUD set.
Question 2a: please read the above statement, I understand it to be 2 injection molds, with 2 cavities. However, it is stating mold...am I correct in say (2), 2 cavity molds?
CLIN 0004 – Tube Mold Side Gated Tooling – Design & build a four (4) cavity mud set 5” x 8.”
Question 2b: same applies, we will design a total of 4 injection molds here. Is this correct?
CLIN 0005 – Diaphragm Gated Tube Tooling – Design & build a four (4) cavity MUD set 5” x 8.” MUD set Question 2c: same applies, we will design a total of 4 injection molds here. Is this correct?
CLIN 0006 – Notched/Un-notched IZOD Tooling – Design & build a two (2) cavity MUD set 5” x 8.” MUD Question 2d: please read the above statement, I understand it to be 2 injection molds, with 2 cavities. However, it is stating mold...am I correct in say (2), 2 cavity molds?
ANSWERS: Each of these line items is for a single mold with the specified number of cavities. There will be a total of six molds produced, one of each type. So there will be one mold to produce a single 6”x6” square part per shot, one mold with two cavities to produce two tensile bar type II parts per shot, one mold with two cavities to produce two tensile bar type V parts per shot, etc.
QUESTION 3 - CLIN 0008 – Set up and Sampling charge for all tools Do you supply the resin?
What resins will be used?
How many shots or hours in the press would be required to quote?
ANSWERS: For CLIN0008, if they (vendors) have a suitable resin in stock or can order, the cost for that material can be included in the quote for the sampling charge.
Regarding resin type, ideally, it would be Polyphenylsulphone (PPSU) or Polyetherimide (PEI, also know as Ultem). Any injection molding grade of either of those two resin types would be acceptable for sampling.
I don’t have a clear answer for number of sample parts, as this is our first time commissioning injection molds. As many shots as is typical to demonstrate satisfactory performance of the mold. If I had to put a number to it, I’d say probably 10-20 parts is good, but that can be flexible if there’s justification to go one way or the other.
QUESTION 4: CLIN 0005 – Diaphragm Gated Tube Tooling – Design & build a four (4) cavity MUD set 5” x 8.” MUD set shall contain guided ejector system straight locks, hardened S-7 core and cavity inserts. Tool shall have machined cavities for transducers to be installed but no transducers shall be included. There shall be 3 sets of diaphragm gate inserts supplied with the tool for future size changes.
Four (4) cavity 5” x 8” MUD set to produce a tube of dimensions OD = 11.6mm, ID = 9.6mm, length = 25mm. Parts shall be diaphragm gated.
1. The only way to diaphragm gate a “tube” part is in the top / center of the tube, this would require a hot manifold or 3 plate and would not work with a MUD as specified.
1. Please clarify how this should be quoted, only way to do it in a MUD set would be a single (1) cavity.
ANSWER: If they (vendors) can’t do a MUD set for this mold, then a 3 plate mold for the four cavity, diaphragm-gated tube is acceptable.
