RFQ: W911QX-19-Q-0206

Subject: Questions posed by prospective offeror’s & answers.

1) For the two (2) units of automatic Metallographic Grinding Polishing Machine systems, will this be a central force system, individual force system, or both?

Answer: It can be central force, as well as individual forces. Both will be acceptable.

2) The applied polishing force range between zero (0) pounds to twenty-two (22) pounds, in one (1) pound increments doesn’t seem high enough, most systems go to at least 60 pounds.

Answer: 22 pounds is the minimum requirement. 60 pounds will meet this requirement.

3) For the high-speed Metallographic Grinding Polishing Machines for fine polishing of metallic and ceramic specimens: Is this a manual system or is this an automatic system with an automatic head?

Answer: Both manual system and automatic system are acceptable.

4) It states that it will require 1 magnetic platen. We are concerned that using a magnetic platen system might be a safety risk with a polishing wheel capable of turning 900 RPM.

Answer: The machine must have safety mechanism for it to operate at 900 RPM with the magnetic platen.

5) For the four (4) Sample holders for six (6) round specimens (1.25 inches diameter): will these be for central force or individual force?

Answer: Both will be acceptable.

6) It states that these holder need to be compatible with the automatic Metallographic Grinding Polishing Machine systems and the high-speed Metallographic Grinding Polishing Machines If the high-speed Metallographic Grinding Polishing Machine is a manual polisher, the holder would not be needed?

Answer: if an automatic head is offered for the high-speed polishers, then holder is required. If automatic head is not offer, then holder is not required.

Both manual and automatic system for the high-speed polisher are acceptable.

7) I am working on the solicitation W911QX-19-Q-0206; How ever, we do not have a machine capable of 900 rpms. I am wondering if this will exclude us from consideration. If so, I will forego bidding and save everyone the time.

Answer: 900 RPM polisher is the requirement.
