Question and Answer Log
| Question Number | Document | Document Reference | Question/Comments | Answer/Response | Date Received | Date Posted |
| 1 | Exhibit B Attachments | How will the part to be ground be driven by the spindle? | A drive dog is being used at the present time at WVA. | 1-Aug-19 | ||
| 2 | Exhibit B Attachments | WVA has specified both live and dead centers, so it is not clear if the spindle is to rotate the part by using a dead center or whether the part is to be held between live centers and driven by a face plate or driving dog. WVA has not specified a face plate or driving dog, but has specified both live and dead centers so we are not clear what you intend to do. Please clarify. | It is not the intent to tell a manufacturer how to design their machine to meet WVA requirments. That beng said WVA now uses a dead center in the spindle and a live center in the tail stock which holds the part. | 1-Aug-19 | ||
| 3 | Exhibit B | 3.2.3.5 | What is the spindle brake in 3.2.3.5 is to be used for? | It holds the spindle from moving. | 1-Aug-19 | |
| 4 | Exhibit B | Do you need to hold the spindle in place during setup? | Yes | 1-Aug-19 | ||
| 5 | Exhibit B | Do you need to stop the spindle quickly when slowing down? | This is not a requirement but would be a nice feature. | 1-Aug-19 | ||
| 6 | Exhibit B | Do you need to stop the spindle at a particular radial position when you stop - ie a particular degree such as 90 or 123 degrees? | This is not a requirement but would be a nice feature. | 1-Aug-19 | ||
| 7 | Exhibit B | The SOW does not give a building number or a location where the machine is to be rigged and installed. Is there going to be a site visit ? It is impossible to quote a good rigging price without one. | Due to ongoing machine modernization at WVA, the exact installation location of this machine at WVA is unknown at this time, but will be either WVA Building 35 or Building 110. Each of these buildings offer easy access for any rigging company to rig and place the equipment. WVA will ensure clear access to the installation site. All local rigging companies are extremely familiar with placing machine tools at WVA, specifically in these buildings. As noted in paragraph 3.1.29.2.2, if necessary, the Watervliet Arsenal can provide the contractor with information for local rigging companies. | |||

The Contractor is responsible for hold-down installation and grouting. | 4-Aug-19 | |
