W91151-16-B-0016 Install Railroad Jack Pads
Request for Information and Responses
1. How do we dig the proposed grade beam around existing ties?
Please see the revised plan drawing on sheet C-201 and the revised detail section on sheet C-502.
The grade beam will be constructed at the edge (end) of the railroad tie.
2. General Bldg. Note #2 states the reinforced Steel is to be verified by the design engineer or a P.E.
Is this to be done by DPW or will the contractor have to hire a P.E. to inspect the steel?
The recommendation by the Government is for the contractor to request DPW to inspect the reinforcement. Prior coordination of inspection time will be handled through the project COR.
Please provide the government no less than one week’s notice to schedule the inspection.
3. Sheet C-201 Typical Slab Plan View. Are there any beams on the interior slab and the exterior slab that is not next to the ramp slab?
The intermediate slab, as shown in the revised plan on sheet C-201 and further depicted on sheet C-502, will not have perimeter or interior beams. The ‘exterior slab’ and the ‘exterior slab adjacent to ramp’, as referred to in the drawings, will have perimeter and/or interior beams.
4. Sheet C-201. Section references a sheet C503. Is there a sheet C503 or is that a misprint?
Sheet C-503 was a misprint. However, the plan set has been revised and the correct references are shown.
5. The detail on Sheet C-201 shows a beam along the tracks. Are we to cut and remove the cross ties in order to place the beam?
Please see the revised plan drawing on sheet C-201 and the revised detail section on sheet C-502 for clarification on beam locations. There will be no cutting of cross ties at any location.
6. Are the railroad ties to be removed in order to place 6” of select fill as per B-5 on sheet C-501?
No, the railroad ties will not be removed. The fill material will be placed around the track structure.
Please see the revised detail section on sheet C-502 and the revised slab details on sheet C-503.
7. There is no testing of sub grade or compaction testing so how do we determine if the slab will hold up to weight and shifting?
Please see the ‘General Notes and Slab Details’, sheet C-501, in the revised plan set. As stated in the general notes A-1, the concrete slabs and beams have been designed in accordance with the American Concrete Institute Building Code Provisions. Material and site testing is required for the subgrade, fill, and concrete per the general notes in Section B, C, and D. Concrete slump tests and concrete cylinders are also required per the general notes in section E.
8. Are railroad tracks made to shift or float with the movement of the train? If this is the case then how will the concrete not crack?
The concrete slab has been designed in accordance with the UFC 4-860-01FA Railroad Design and Rehabilitation dated 16 January 2004. Any shift or float in the railroad tracks resulting from the movement of the train has been addressed in the design. Please see the revised plan drawing set.
9. The concrete slab in the middle of the tracks appear to be setting on the railroad ties floating. Is this the proper application?
The concrete slab in between the tracks will be constructed partially on top of the railroad ties and partially on top of the compacted ballast. The concrete slab has been designed in accordance with the UFC 4-860-01FA Railroad Design and Rehabilitation dated 16 January 2004.
10. Who is responsible for the warranty of the materials if the train tracks are designed to shift or float?
The concrete slab has been designed in accordance with the UFC 4-860-01FA Railroad Design and Rehabilitation dated 16 January 2004. Any shift or float in the railroad tracks resulting from the movement of the train has been addressed in the design. The warranty of the materials will be the responsibility of the contractor. The contractor will be held responsible for any deficiencies resulting from the quality of the workmanship.
