Minimum Essential Characteristics Bone Densitometer

Specifications for a Bone Densitometer for the Biophysics and Biomedical Modeling Division (BBMD) shall include:

1. Bone densitometer which uses single pass fan beam technology with at least a 64-channel high resolution digital detector for optimal image quality.

1. Three minute or less scan time for whole-body measurements.

1. Body composition software that measures both the quantity and distribution of body fat.

1. Software that automatically labels deformations, filter enhances images by reducing soft tissue noise and improving bone edge detail.

1. Software to quantify visceral fat.

1. Bone densitometer with low x-ray dose to reduce radiation exposure.

1. Software to alert technician of improper positioning, unusual anatomy, high density areas and artifacts, and provides suggestions for correction.

1. Quality assurance software independent of any patient measurement.

1. Software to meet HIPAA standards of confidentiality of patient information.

1. Meet ISCD precision standards.

1. Capacity to support patient weights up to 450 lbs.

1. Uninterruptible power supply 120V, 50/60Hz, at least 1500VA.

1. Table size 84 in x 48 in x 48 in (L x W x H) maximum.

1. Scan area at least 72” x 24”

1. Includes optional mobile unit attachment

1. PC requirement minimums: Intel processor-2.8 GHz Pentium 4, Scanner communications-dedicated onboard 10/100 Mbit Ethernet, RAM-2 GB, Video-SVGA (1024x768 24/32 color), Hard drive-160 GB, Optical drive-DVD-R, Archive-320GB hard drive, option for Windows 7 or Windows 10 OS.

1. Monitor – widescreen LCD.

1. Minimum of 1-day on-site application training

1. Mobile computer cart to hold printer, computer, monitor, and power supply

1. Windows 10 compatibility or will be Windows 10 compatible by September 2019 and include Tech-non-obsolescence so there will be no additional cost for the OS upgrade.

1. Compliance with applicable DISA SRGs and STIGs (http://iase.disa.mil/stigs/Pages/index.aspx) with documentation detailing controls that are compliant and those that are mitigated or not implemented

1. Measurement of lean mass with +/- 0.5% precision for comparability to other research studies

1. Software features that include advanced body composition analyses and accommodates pediatric scan options (soldiers under age 20)
