About this file
The provided document is a Forest Treatment Proposal from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Forest Resources Division. It details a plan to masticate immature cover in stands 1, 4, and 404, and trench and plant Jack Pine for Kirtland's Warbler habitat in the Grayling Forest Management Unit. The proposal outlines the acreage, stand numbers, and location of the project, as well as the approved methods, which include mastication, trenching, and herbicide application. The document also includes instructions for protecting retention islands, private property boundaries, and mapped roads during the cultivation work. The project is related to a state and local contract opportunity called the "DNR Jack Pine Mastication & Scarification FY23 REVISED 11-4", which involves work in Otsego County, Michigan.
The proposal does not mention pricing terms, set asides, incumbents, funding requirements, or other financial details. It focuses on the technical aspects of the forest management activities, including the objectives, methods, and logistical considerations for the project.

Exclude the red-bounded retention islands from mastication.
Protect the blue-painted trees that delineate the private property boundary. Do not operate equipment or drop slash across the blue-painted boundary. Keep the mapped roads clear of slash. A proposal to close the road that crosses through the mastication area will be pursued, but a final determination won't be made until 2023, so it has to be left open during the 2022 cultivation work. This mastication area will be merged with the adjacent planting block once timbersale 72-039-21 is cut and ready for trenching.
