About this file

This document contains a federal contract opportunity notice and an attachment comparing projector specifications. The federal contract opportunity is a sole source solicitation from the U.S. Army Contracting Command - Detroit Arsenal to award a firm fixed price contract to Little Green Men, Inc. doing business as LGM Technology. The contract is for removal, installation, and configuration services for 11 theater projectors and lenses at the National Museum of the United States Army. The period of performance is four months. Interested parties may submit a capabilities statement for consideration, though award is intended on a sole source basis. The Department of the Army Materiel Command TACOM Life Cycle Management Command is the contracting agency.

The projector specification attachment compares two models, the Barco R9023465 UDM-4k15 and the Barco F90-4k13. Specifications covered include resolution, brightness, lens options, shift capabilities, color correction, light source details, weight, dimensions, noise level, and power consumption.

COMMENTS:

1) The measurement on the top of the Barco UDM-4k15 drawing is labeled as Chord length of 240 ½ inches.

The original TSR F90 drawing also shows a measurement of 240 ½ inches, but shows it in feet (20 feet and ½ inches). The issue is that it seems that the TSR drawing is measuring along the arc between two screen points (Arc Length) and not along a straight line between two screen points (chord length). Assuming this as so, the chord length of 240 ½ inches would not be correct and would be too long.

2) The measurement on the TSR F90 drawing of the center projector shows a length of 21 feet and ¼ inches ( ie 252 ¼ inches ) to the screen . The Barco UDM drawing also show a length from the center projector to the screen stating 252 ¼ inches to screen, labeling it as ‘Proof Dimension’. The TSR F90 Barco projector has a centered lens, while the UDM -4K15 comes with a left justified lens.

a. Our concern is that when mounting the new projectors, we will have to offset them to centrally aligned with the original settings.

b. The new projectors will probably require new mounting brackets.

3) The Barco UDM drawing shows a “throw feet” of 236 inches from the body of the center projector to the “Chord Line” between two screen points. The TSR F90 drawings did not have this measurement, but only focus on the distance of the lens to the screen. We would like a more detail explanation.

4) The Barco UDM drawing shows 30 degrees between the center of the lens of one project to the next projector. This seems to be tracking with the TSR F90 drawing if the UDM projectors are mounted to allow the lens to be centrally aligned.

5) Barco UDM drawings gives 2002.765 inches (166 feet 10 ¾ inches) as the total arc length of the viewing area. This roughly matches the TSR drawing, which is about 166 feet arc length of the viewing area. One thing noted on the TSR drawing is that the very first and the very last projector are shown as having their view with at 53.8 degrees is cut short to not cover the entire width. Can the UDM-4K15s be similarly adjusted to accommodate this clipping of the viewing area?

6) The Barco UDM drawings shows the arc as being 306 degrees.

7) Specification Comparison Differences

a. Lens. The Barco used FLD+ lens. The UDM uses TLD+ lens. We will also need new lens.

b. Brightness. UDM has higher brightness than the F90

c. Brightness Uniformity: UDM is higher by 5%. ( 90% vs 95%)

d. Projector type: UDM is 3 chip, while the F90 is single chip

e. Optical Lens Shift: The UDM settings are not exactly the same as the F90.

f. Contrast Ratio(Sequential): The UDM is 2200:1 while the F90 is 1800:1.

g. Contrast Ratio (Dynamic) : The UDM is 20000:1 while the F90 is 10000:1.

h. Noise Level : Is higher on the UDM (46 dbA) than the F90 (38 dbA)

i. Power Consumption: The UDM has a lower power consumption than the F90

j. Weight: The UDM is heavier than the F90

k. Size Dimensions: F90 is 22.64 x 28.74 x11.61 in UDM is 28.54 x 21.26 x 13.3 in

l. 3D: See comparison above in chart.

8) Image size. How is this being calculated and how does it compare to the F90?

9) Luminance. How is this calculated and how does it compare to the F90?

10) Pixel Size. How does this compare to the F90?

11) IP Address. We need to make sure we can set the IP address to match the Medialon/Watch Server.
