W56HZV22RL043 CMH Ft. Lewis QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

1. We would like to know if this is a brand new contract OR if there is (was) an incumbent performing these services. If not brand new, could you please provide the current / previous contract number?

This is a brand new contract. The work will do modifications to the existing exhibits as well as additions to the existing exhibits. The previous contract number is W56HZV-15-C-L651.

2. Design drawings. Please provide a materials and finishes schedule - it’s called out as pg. 0.04 in the notes, but is not included in the drawings.

Page 4.0 has been modified to include the finish notes. In addition, 3 pages with detail photos of the topo table, Pages 41.0, 42.0 and 43.0 have been added to the design package.

3. Design drawings, pg. 1. The TOC lists pg. 37, General Notes, but that page is missing. Please provide the missing page.

That page was dropped and the information was moved onto the other drawings pages.

4. Design drawings, pg. 2. Are the lights, buttons, wiring and other electrical components already in place on the table and just need to be removed for refinishing and then replaced? If not, has the table been modified so that these components are simply installed/placed or does the table need to be modified?

The lights, wiring and buttons are in place on the existing map. This map is to be replaced with a new map so where necessary you will need to remove the lights and wiring then reinstall them into the new map. Attached are three photo pages with detail shots of the existing map table. These are pages 41.0, 42.0 and 43.0

5. Design drawings, pg. 2. Please define the scope of work to refinish the map tables to include affected areas, materials and finish specifications.

Scope of work will be to repair any damage on the bases. Page 4.0 now has an explanation on finishes and references to pages in drawing package for details.

6. Design drawings, pg. 4. There is a graphic at the top right labeled “G9.” What is this graphic (G9 is a mural on pgs. 6 & 7)?

That graphic was marked incorrectly it has been remarked G-8B and added to the graphic schedule on page 31.0.

7. Design drawings, pgs. 10-12. Items 1 & 2 on pg. 10 say to remove and replace the existing graphics rail but the rail is not clearly shown on the drawings. Can we get a sketch of the rail to include dimensions, materials and finishes?

Page 10 should have clarified that the rail is not being rebuilt only the graphic on the rail is to be removed and replaced with a new graphic. Page 10 has been modified to clarify this. Size of this graphic is on page 31.0

8. Design drawings, pgs. 10 & 35. Item 3 on pg. 10 says to fabricate brackets for the objects listed on page 35. Page 35 includes 18 items, 16 of those have “TBD” entered in the description column(s). Should we limit the scope to items 01, 02, 05, 06, 07 and 08?

a. Please define the scope to identify which items need mounts, whether they will be mounted on posts from the deck or brackets on the case back, dimensions, etc.

Page 35 has been updated with the requested information.

They are in the scope. This is Page 34.0 of the drawing package. I added a note on the page saying contractor to supply.

c. Will the fabric-covered case panels need to be replaced or rewrapped with fabric after the existing objects and brackets are removed?

i. If yes, what are the specs for the fabric and panels?

The back panels will not be redone/recovered.

10. Design drawings, pg. 20. Is this case hard-wired to a j-box or plug-in?

If hardwired, please provide contact info for an electrician(s) that has previously done work on-site.

Not hard-wired – case plugs in

11. Design drawings, pgs. 22 & 34. Is the purchase of these body forms in the exhibit fabricator’s scope?

Face and hair should be selected by the museum staff using Dorfman’s head and hair examples.

12. Design drawings, pgs. 24 – 26. Do the totems simply need to be set in place and secured with the straps?

The totem poles can be attached with the straps.

a. How should the signs be hung (wall mounts or suspended from the ceiling)?

i. If suspended, what is the preferred hardware, and can we attach hangers to the signs?

Museum staff will move the objects when needed.

GRAPHIC QUESTIONS:

16. Is the exhibit fabricator responsible for any artwork/file creation?

Production ready graphic files will be supplied for everything but G-15. This will be supplied to you as image file. You will be responsible for sizing the image and colorizing the image.

17. Are there any paint or PMS colors that need to be matched?

The paint on the topo map tables will need to be matched. This color is noted on revised 4.0. The PMS colors on the graphics must be matched. You can work with the museum staff to decide the best way to proof the graphics so the Pantone colors match the existing graphics.

18. On the (3), flip panels. Is this a (2) two-part flip where the face asks a question, and the flip reveals the answer?

It is a two-part panel with the question on the front, the answer on the rail below. Pages 41.0 and 42.0 have photos of the existing flip panels showing the details.

19. Are there any product restrictions?

Not sure what this means but if the question is asking if items listed in the design documents can they be substituted with a different suppliers product the answer is no.

20. Is the contractor obligated to match existing graphic colors and product specifications?

They must match the existing graphics and paint. Paint specifications have been provided on page 4. The graphic files being sent have the same PMS colors as the existing graphics. You can work with the museum staff to decide the best way to proof the graphics so the Pantone colors match the existing graphics.

If yes, please provide PMS color values, and product sheets in the existing exhibit.

With the exception of G-15, all of the graphic production files will be supplied by the museum.
