About this file
This is a Salient Characteristics document for a Special Purpose Electrical Cable (Part Number 17-1532, Drawing A3206001) procured by the Department of the Army. The cable is designed for operating temperatures ranging from -55°C to +80°C and must comply with MIL-C-27500 standards and ANSI Y14.5M-1982 dimensional tolerances. The cable assembly comprises three conductor types: Type A (1 twisted pair with shield using 24 AWG silver-plated copper with ETFE insulation and tin-plated copper shield at 90% coverage), Type B (2 twisted pairs using 18 AWG tin-plated copper with ETFE insulation in red-black and yellow-violet color configurations), and Type C (single 20 AWG tin-plated copper conductor with orange ETFE insulation). The overall cable construction includes thermoplastic rubber filler, clear Mylar isolator and separator layers, and a tin-plated copper braid shield with 90% minimum coverage rated at 500 milliohms per meter maximum at 100 MHz.
The cable jacket is extruded polyurethane (TPU) with a black dull finish, minimum wall thickness of 1.00 mm, and nominal outer diameter of 9.7 mm. All materials must be non-hygroscopic, resistant to fuels, lubricants, solvents, and preservatives, and must not support fungal growth. The jacket must withstand being pushed back 3 inches without sustaining damage. The related pre-solicitation opportunity (Solicitation Number W51AA1-26-Q-XXXX) seeks sources for 2,500 feet of total continuous length cable on reels (or 5 reels of 500 feet each) and is associated with a Sources Sought and Brand Name or Equal Justification and Approval (J&A) form.
