AMENDMENT NARRATIVE

THE PURPOSE OF THIS AMENDMENT IS TO:

1. EXTEND THE CLOSING DATE TO FEBRUARY 16, 2024.

2. ADD REVISED RIPD E4000-24-3-06 TURNING CENTER r2.

3. ADD QUESTION/ANSWERS FROM INDUSTRY:

4.2.2 Mounting: The bed base shall be anchored to the foundation using a chemical anchoring system (Can type anchoring shall not be considered acceptable Question: Will it be acceptable to drill holes in the foundation and use a chemical bonding agent for connecting the anchor/leveling bolts to the foundation.

Answer: Yes this would be considered acceptable. Request that this response be annotated on compliance document.

4.3.2 Drive: The spindle shall be equipped with a variable speed, AC spindle motor. All spindle drive shafts and bearings shall be of steel or steel alloy, hardened and ground. Gear drive is required. (Belt Drive is not acceptable).

Question: Current technology utilizes a direct drive that integrates the spindle and the spindle drive motor. It develops similar torque and HP but does not use belts or gears. Is this method acceptable?

Answer: Direct Drive is acceptable

4.3.9 Spindle Bore Diameter: Spindle Bore Diameter (minimum): 7.28 inches Question: This stipulates the bore in the spindle not the bore in the spindle draw tube? If this is the spindle ID what is maximum material OD that the lathe will need to accept in the spindle draw tube?

Answer: Please see the updated revised scope of work that clarifies this requirement in paragraph 4.3.10

4.3.11 Spindle HP 60HP

Question: What duty rating to achieve 60 hp?` Answer: Please see the updated revised scope of work that clarifies this requirement.

4.6.4 Positioning: The tailstock shall include a rotary sleeve. The bearings of the rotary sleeve shall allow the taper to rotate and reduce friction and vibration while cutting.

Question: Is this spec requesting a live body tailstock?

Answer: This spec is not requesting a live center, rather a dead center in a live sleeve. If unavailable, a live center can be evaluated and considered acceptable.

4.9.1 The system shall be equipped with a standard VDI turret capable of I.D and O.D turning operations.

Question: What size VDI shank refer to All Metric VDI Shank sizes: 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, & 80mm?

Answer: The equipment should come with whatever size is necessary to handle the requested tooling at the RPM specified with respect with heavy duty machining.

4.9.5 Tooling Type: CAT40

Question: Is the specification requiring a CAT40 Taper in the VDI Holder? Normally the toolholders are either CAT std or VDI std but not both.

Answer: VDI style live tool that accepts CAT40 tool holder for heavy duty rigid machining operations.

4.10.3 Steady rest base: The base shall be positioned by a ball screw drive Question: Specification is requesting (3) linear ballscrew driven axes: R (tailstock) Z (Lathe horizontal axis) Unspecified nomenclature (steadyrest body). Normally the steadyrest is on a rack and pinion drive.

Answer/ Clarification: As long as the drive system/ positioning of the steady rest is programmable, then other drive methods can be evaluated and considered acceptable.

4.11.7 Boring Bar Modification: The turret shall be modified to allow for a 4-inch boring bar socket. The tailstock shall accommodate long boring bars.

W519TC24Q2131

Question: What is the boring bar OD and OAL (Overall Length) for mounting in the turret? What is the boring bar OD and OAL (Overall length) for mounting in the Tailstock? How will you generate the tool offsets for the Tailstock mounted boring bars?

Answer: When reviewing the listed specification, it was determined that there were some errors/ conflicting statements. Please see the revised RIPD that has clarifying information.

4.11.10 High Torque Tooling: The equipment shall be designed to accept High Torque Tooling consisting of 81 ft-lbs/ 4000rpm. This shall be provided with the equipment in a CAT40 tool set configuration.

Question: What is the toolholder base; BMT VDI or special? Is this specification referring to the turret? Or is this a B axis?

Answer: Its referring to the live tools in the turret, The live tools will be VDI live tool holders that accept CAT40 tool holders. Please see the revised RIPD that relocates the section under the turret portion of the specification.

4.11.11 Boring Bar Holders: The system shall come with (1) each of long boring bar holders for 3.15-in ID and 4-in ID boring bars.

Question: What are the maximum OAL of the boring bars for both holders? Clarify the specification is for 3.15- and 4-inch diam. Boring bars.

Answer: This is for the tailstock mounted system. 46 inches is the extrusion capacity. Please see the revised spec with clarifying statements.

4.11.13 Mill Holders: The system shall come with qty (2) Offset V-Type CAT40 4000rpm External Coolant VDI Turret mill holders and qty (2) Heavy duty H-Type CAT40 4000rpm External Coolant VDI Turret mill Holders.

Question: Please clarify the specification of V type and H type and clarify if the toolholder mounting base is CAT40 or VDI.

Answer: The mounting base would be VDI but the VDI tool holders need to be able to accept CAT40 tool holders as opposed to collets. V is Vertical and H is Horizontal. Please see the revised RIPD that includes clarifying statements.

4.12.39 Windows Operating System: The equipment control shall utilize a windows operating system.

Question: Clarify that the specification is referring to the CNC system must be Windows base. Is it acceptable to have a brand level front end i.e., Fanuc, Okuma, Siemens, Mazatrol, Haas as the operator interface with a windows backend system? If yes which of the mentioned front-end systems is preferred?

Answer: Windows backend system. The front-end system should be whatever system interface that would normally come with this equipment.
