About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for a Training Aids procurement by the Wisconsin Air National Guard, specifically for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Munitions Training Aids. The Q&A provides detailed technical specifications for training replicas, including requirements for destructibility, fillability, and low/non-fragmentation production. Key technical details include:
Specific requirements for the training aids involve creating replicas that can be filled with materials like sand, Tannerite, plastic explosive, or clay, with an access point large enough to pack these substances. The replicas must be designed to replicate real-world explosive charge cavities and be 3D-printed from ABS plastic to minimize fragmentation. For grenade training aids, there is a requirement for an audible and/or visual initiation indication that is noticeable from approximately 30 feet away. The procurement is being conducted by the Department of the Army National Guard, with the solicitation number W50S9F-25-Q-A012, and has undergone at least one amendment as of 16 September 2025.

Training Aids Q&A
1. Destructible : How is "destructible" defined, and what methods will be used to destruct these replicas?
Answer: Destructible: intended to be destroyed, and non/low fragmentation producing.
1. Fillable
a. What material will be used to fill the replicas?
Answer: Needs to be fillable with either sand/Tannerite/plastic explosive/clay so that we can replicate as applicable for weight/x-ray representation/explosive contribution
b. Is there a specific method or design aspect needed to incorporate into the replica, i.e. 1/4" hole that can use epoxy to seal the hole after filling?
Answer: Access large enough to permit the packing of either clay or plastic explosive.
c. Is there a specific size / shape cavity needed for each of the replicas that will be filled?
Answer: Real world explosive charge cavity
2. Low/non fragmentation producing: We would intend on producing any replica with this requirement from 3D-printed ABS. I have no specific test data to indicate that this or any other plastic material would be "low fragmentation producing", however we would ensure there are no metal pieces within these replicas. Would that be acceptable?
Answer: Yes
3. For the grenades, there is a requirement that says "Audible and/or visual indication of initiation.” Are there anticipated minimum performance levels for the initiation indication, i.e. decibel level, size and duration of smoke effect, etc?
Answer: Such that if an individual actuates the grenade, they are aware of it/attention grabbing from approximately 30 ft.
