About this file
This document is a Questions and Answers file for Request for Quote (RFQ) W50S6W25Q0004 for an Ultrasonic Cleaning System for the Department of the Army National Guard. The solicitation seeks a specialized parts cleaning system for M61A1 Gun System components, with specific technical requirements including a 3-tank system capable of handling steel and aluminum parts ranging from 10-50 lbs per basket, with a maximum basket load of 150 lbs. Key system specifications include an ultrasonic wash tank, ultrasonic rinse tank, forced air heated drying tank, automatic spray feature, and filtration capability.
The cleaning system must accommodate parts up to 24"L x 18"W x 24"H, including 60" long gun barrels, and process up to 10 wash cycles daily. The system will clean used parts contaminated with grease, gun powder, dirt, sand, MC 46000 lubricant, and SFD. Parts will be manually inserted and removed, with tank dimensions requiring a minimum of 36"L x 26"W x 27"D. The parts will be coated with a protective lubricant after washing to prevent rusting, and no oil removal is required. The solicitation is a combined synopsis/solicitation prepared in accordance with Subpart 12.6 and Federal Acquisition Circular 2025-03.

Questions and Answers
1. What is the geometry of an individual part? No need to be super-specific, just general LxWxH will do. Parts are up to 24”L x18”w x 24”H
2. Material construction of the parts? If parts are steel, will there be any concern of flash rusting after tap water rinse? Parts are steel and aluminum. No concern for rust material gets coated with a protective lubricant after washing cycle.
3. What is the weight of a single part? Parts will range from 10 – 50lbs. Rough estimate of heaviest basket load during a wash cycle would be around 150 lbs.
4. Is your intent to clean the barrels in a vertical orientation? We are not cleaning the gun barrels in our current parts washer as they do not fit. It would be helpful if we were able to do this with the new system. Either vertically or horizontally. Barrels are 60” in length.
5. Will you need part fixturing? Is there an existing fixture? Would a drawing or photo of the fixture be made available to ensure clearance and fit? See the attached pictures.
6. What will your method of inserting and removing parts within the equipment be? Hoist? Hand? Lift truck? Hand
7. What is the ideal batch size of parts in a cycle? Batch size is up 150lbs per basket. Basket Dimensions are 34”L x 24”W x 4”D
8. Daily part throughput of system? Up to 10 wash cycles
9. Will the barrels be new or used? (Different contaminant profile for each) Used barrels.
10. What are the contaminants on the parts? Grease, gun powder, dirt, sand, MC 46000 lubricant & SFD.
11. Would you desire oil removal? No
12. Would you desire filtration? Yes
13. What size tanks do you require? (LxWxD) for each of the tanks. The tank size we require would have to be at a minimum of 36”L X 26 ½”W X 27”D.
14. Wash/Rinse/Dry/Oil stations? We need a 3-tank system with an ultrasonic wash (agitation)/ultrasonic rinse (just a heated rinse)/forced air heated drying tank. We don’t need the baskets to automatically lift into each take if it is easy to do manually. Meaning it will not require a mechanical lift/hoist to move the baskets. We need to be able to move the baskets manually with one person.
15. For the “spray” feature, does you want a handheld spray or automatic spray? We want an automatic spray feature.
