About this file

The file is a Questions and Answers document for a solicitation by the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) seeking an industrial-grade ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning foreign weapons and vehicle parts. The Q&A session clarifies technical specifications, including confirmation of a dual-chamber tank, peak wattage requirements (600W for smaller components, 2000W for larger assemblies), heating capabilities (2000W, approximately 53.5 degrees), and the need for yearly resupply of cleaning solutions and lubricants.

The Q&A document addresses potential vendor concerns about ultrasonic power efficiency, specifically discussing the recommended power-to-volume ratio of 20 watts per gallon for effective cleaning. Key technical details from the original solicitation include a tank size of 53" L x 10" W x 10" D, 120V power operation, 40 kHz frequency, inclusion of two mesh baskets, and a minimum one-year warranty. The solicitation is issued by the Department of the Army Materiel Command Contracting Command Detroit Arsenal, with delivery scheduled 10 weeks from the award date to Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, and questions were due by 10 AM EST on 27 AUG 2025.

Q1.Item 4 wattage 600 watts for smaller components and up to 2000 watts for larger assemblies? Please explain this feature.
A1.This is because ultrasonic cleaners need more power to effectively clean larger parts, which require more energy to break down the material effectively. Smaller parts may use less wattage, around 240 – 600 wats, to handle their specific cleaning needs.
Q2.Is the requested wattage the average or peak value?
A2.The wattage is often peak value, meaning it reflects the maximum power output needed during cleaning tasks. So yes.
Q3.Is this a dual-chamber tank?
A3.Yes, it is.
Q4.Do you require cleaning solutions and lubricants?
A4.Yes, we need to coordinate yearly resupply of solutions and lubricants.

Q5. The tank dimensions indicate approximately 20 gallons of liquid in each chamber. The specified ultrasonic power is not enough to adequately clean a basket load of gun parts. Fifty watts per gallon is a very low figure. This will result in poor performance.

A5. Generally, the appropriate ultrasonic power requirement is around 20 watts per gallon for effective cleaning. So, you are correct 50 watts per gallon may lead to poor performance. However, the appropriate power level should be calculated based on the tank volume. So, if the tank holds 20 gallons, the required power would be 200 watts. (20 gallons x 10 watts per gallon). So, the adjustment step would be adjusting the power settings on the cleaner.

Q6.Is the requested system heated? If so, how much heat per tank?
A6.Yes, it is, and it is 2000W. So approximately 53.5 degrees.
