1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Scope. This statement of work (SOW) defines the efforts to conduct non-destructive and functional (ballistic) testing of:

• Ten (10) Government-Furnished CLS Separation Nuts (P/N JCM-14176-002), which requires the use of ten (10) Government-Furnished CLS Initiators (P/N JCM14175-001) for initiation and ten (10) Government-Furnished Pressure Switches (P/N JCM-14174-002), and;

• Ten (10) Government-Furnished VLS Separation Nuts (P/N 76Z6576 or 76Z5921- 1, -2), which requires the use of ten (10) Government-Furnished Tomahawk Standard Initiators (P/N 76Z2843-3) for initiation.

• Five (5) Government-Furnished Tomahawk Standard Initiators (P/N 76Z2843-3) shall be provided as spares to be used for initiation for either the CLS Separation Nuts (P/N JCM-14176-002) or VLS Separation Nuts (P/N 76Z6576 or 76Z5921- 1, -2) if necessary.

1.2 Background. CLS Separation Nuts were tested at Scot Incorporated in March 2007. The testing provided functional test results of CLS Separation Nuts, initiators, and pressure switches that were furnished by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division

(NSWC IHD).

3.0 REQUIREMENTS

3.1 Fleet Return Unit Testing.

3.1.1 Non-destructive Tests (NDT).

3.1.1.1 The examination of the product shall be conducted on the units in Tables 1 and 2, in accordance with ATPs 6032-300 and 6016100/6016100-2, respectively. Examination results shall be provided in accordance with CDRL A001 (Technical Report– Study/Services).

3.1.1.2 The X-ray inspection shall be conducted on the units in Table 1 and 2, in accordance with ATPs 6032-300 and 6016100/6016100-2, respectively. The radiographic inspection report(s) and a copy of the X-ray(s) shall be provided in accordance with CDRL A001 (Technical Report–Study/Services).

3.1.1.3 The post-functional visual inspection shall be conducted on the units in Tables 1 and 2.

After functional testing, all Separation Nuts shall be disassembled and components (including initiator) inspected for any evidence of component hardware failure or damage and o-ring sealing characteristics. Inspection results shall be provided in accordance with CDRL A001 (Technical Report–Study/Services).

3.1.1.4 Non-destructive test and inspection results shall be recorded. A copy of test and inspection results, and, if necessary, associated non conformance report(s), shall be delivered in accordance with CDRL A001 (Technical Report–Study/Services).

3.1.1.5 In the event of a failure, the contractor shall be limited to photographing and verifying the respective test setup and notifying the Government representative. The Government representative shall provide concurrence to proceed forward with testing.

3.1.2 Functional Tests.

3.1.2.1 The functional testing of JCM-14176-002 (Scot Inc., P/N 6032100) shall include the units shown in Table 1. Units shall be functionally tested in accordance with ATP 6032-300 except temperature conditioning is required as noted in Table 1 and a pressure switch (P/N JCM-14174-002) shall be installed. The remaining initiator port will be plugged in accordance with ATP 6032-300. Prior to functional testing, the Separation Nut, with the initiator (P/N JCM-14175-001) and pressure switch (P/N JCM-14174-002) installed, shall be temperature conditioned in accordance with Table 1. Temperature conditioning time shall be a minimum of 4 hours and no greater than 24 hours. The units shall be functioned within 3 minutes of removal from the temperature conditioning chamber.

3.1.2.2 The functional testing of P/N 76Z5921 (Scot Inc. P/N 6016100) shall include the units shown in Table 2. Units shall be functionally tested in accordance with ATP 6016100/6016100-2, except temperature conditioning is required as noted in Table 2.

Prior to functional testing, the Separation Nut, with the initiator (P/N 76Z7843-3) installed, shall be temperature conditioned in accordance with Table 2. Temperature

5 Attachment (H) conditioning time shall be a minimum of 4 hours and no greater than 24 hours. The units shall be functioned within 3 minutes of removal from the temperature conditioning chamber.

3.1.2.3 Test data, which includes function time (time from application of current to release of the bolt), torque applied to the bolt, and accelerometer and current traces, shall be recorded.

A log of the serial numbers for the separation nut, initiator, and pressure switch (if required) shall be documented for tracking purposes. A copy of test results (including test data, accelerometer traces, and current traces), and, if necessary, associated non-conformance report(s), shall be delivered in accordance with CDRL A001 (Technical Report–Study/Services). A compact disc containing a digital copy of the current and accelerometer time data traces, in a file format that is compatible with Excel spreadsheets (e.g., .csv files), shall be delivered in accordance with CDRL A001 (Technical Report– Study/Services).

3.1.2.4 In the event of a failure, the contractor shall be limited to verifying the test setup and taking a post-fire x-ray of the unit(s) alongside a successfully functioned unit. The contractor must retain any failed units for at least 45 days after testing or until released for disposal by a government representative, whichever comes first. The contractor shall ship failed unit(s) back to the government only upon request.

3.1.2.5 Photographs shall be taken of each test configuration and delivered in accordance with CDRL A001 (Technical Report–Study/Services).

3.1.3 Test Dates. Functional testing shall be completed within 12 weeks after receipt of hardware.

3.1.4 On-Site Visit and Coordination. Contractor shall notify the NSWC/IHEODTD at least ten days prior to functional testing, so representatives can make travel arrangements to witness testing. The NSWC/IHEODTD Technical Representative is Andrew Lee at

(301) 744-2329.

3.1.5 Return of Hardware. Contractor shall return the Pressure Switches (P/N JCM-14174- 002, quantity 10) used during the CLS Separation Nut functional testing to NSWC IHEODTD for inspection. Please notify the NSWC/IHEODTD Technical Representative Andrew Lee at (301) 744-2329 or Andrew.Lee5@navy.mil when units have been shipped
