About this file
This document contains vendors' questions and answers regarding a state and local government Request for Quotation (RFQ) for an RV-style trailer to transport K9 officers and supplies for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The trailer must be 7-8 feet wide, with a 7x16 foot interior space, and include features such as a large capacity refrigerator, propane heater, roof vents, outlets, and an onboard generator. The department will accept a 7x14 or 7x16 foot trailer, with a 5 foot tongue if the generator is placed on the tongue. Acceptable modifications include wood flooring, a hidden screen door, and a gas tank for the generator mounted under the trailer. The department has specific requirements for the furnace, axle size, and electrical service.
The document also indicates that the department will not accept a smaller refrigerator than specified, and that they prefer a plain exterior without enhancements. Pricing terms, set asides, and funding details are not provided in this Q&A document.

1. Could you provide a layout for the trailer? It appears that between the fridge and the generator, there is no usable cabinet space, only countertop space above the generator.
a. Upper and Lower Cabinets across the front with desktop between. (where outlets should be placed.)
b. lower cabinets along driver side wall for 6 feet (back from the front wall of cabinets. Also with desktop above the lower cabinets where remaining outlets should be placed, no upper cabinets required in that section. Frame out space for RV refrigerator within that, depending on width of refrigerator, minimum desk/lower cabinet space on driver side wall to be 4’, then RV Fridge after that.
c.
2. The furnace you requested is the same thing used in oil field trailers in which might be excessive. Could you specify the primary geographic locations where it will be used?
a. A propane heater sufficient to heat insulated trailer in CA (to be used across California)
3. Would you prefer a plain exterior, or should it be enhanced with features such as aluminum wheels, a blackout package, etc.?
a. Plain exterior
4. What axle size are you looking for?
a. (2) 7,000 lb axels, de rated to 9,999 lbs
5. The box length is measured with a 4' tongue. Therefore, a 16' trailer will have an overall length of 20', not 18'. If propane tanks or the generator are placed on the tongue, a 5' tongue will be needed, resulting in an overall length of 21'. Using a shorter tongue increases the risk of the trailer's corner hitting the tow vehicle when jackknifed. Please advise on the layout for both a 7x14' trailer (18' overall) and a 7x16' trailer (20' overall).
a. The box (interior space) should be 7’x16’.
b. If Generator placed on tongue, a 5’ tongue is acceptable
6. RV refrigeration specified is a non-standard item, with 8.0 being the standard RV size. Will this be acceptable?
a. Large Capacity (11 Cu Feet of capacity) is desired.
7. For specifications 11, 17-19, the manufacturer do not recommend cutting eight holes in the roof. Are you planning to install anything in these spaces? Should we have them reinforced?
a. They should all have pop up roof vents.
b. Reinforce as needed.
8. What's the size of the generator? Additionally, what devices or equipment do you plan to plug into the outlets?
a. Sufficient to run AC, and 4 outlets with batter chargers, TV monitor or other similar
9. If an onboard generator is to be installed, a 50 amp service will be required instead of a 30 amp. Please confirm if this is acceptable.
a. Yes.
10. The RV style door has a window. Do you still require the RV-style door? Additionally, would you like an extra window mirrored on the opposite side?
a. Yes RV style door with window/screen, no other extra window required, but desired if space allows.
11. The department will accept trailers ranging in width from 7-8feet
12. The department will not accept a smaller refrigerator than the once specified in the specifications.
13. Would wood flooring be acceptable?
Yes
14. The fridge will be electric; will a gas tank be acceptable for the generator? If so, would it be acceptable to mount it under the trailer?
Yes
15. The passenger side door will only have a key lock and will not include a screen door combo. Instead, there will be a hidden screen door that slides across like a sliding door. Will this be acceptable?
Yes image1.jpeg image2.png
