American Dental™ Instruments

It is possible to place orders for American Dental™ instruments which are not found in our price list and/or catalog. While we have discontinued the listing of some American Dental™ instruments, many of these items are still available in our inventory. Special request items that are not stocked require a minimum order of six units and a 25% surcharge will apply. Contact your customer service representative for pricing and availability.

Special Exceptions on Replacement

Some unique products require special care and handling or have a limited useful life. The following products will not be repaired or replaced unless a manufacturing defect is present or the product has not been used.

Carbon Steel Instruments: Carbon steel instruments are naturally prone to corrosion and require special cleaning and sterilization. These instruments must be separated from stainless steel instruments throughout the cleaning and sterilization process. If processed together, the carbon instruments will likely create cross-corrosion of the stainless instruments. Carbon steel instruments should be thoroughly dried prior to sterilization to prevent rusting and/or corrosion. Use a protective rust-inhibitor before sterilization. Chemical vapor or dry heat sterilization is recommended.

Anodized Aluminum (Felts and Goldsteins):

Special care needs to be exercised in cleaning and sterilizing these coated aluminum instruments. Do not clean in an ultrasonic unit. Check product labels for caution about use with aluminum. Sterilize in autoclave, chemiclave, or dry heat under 350F according to manufacturer’s instructions. Selected cold disinfectant or sterilizing solutions can be used but check product labels for caution about use with aluminum.

The use of an iodophor solution is not recommended, as iodophors are destructive to aluminum. Note also that anodized aluminum instruments when sterilized with stainless steel instruments may cause an adverse chemical reaction.

Colorvue® Probes and American Dental™ Yellow Probes: Special care must be exercised in cleaning these bright and distinct marking bands. Do not use phenolic disinfectant solutions or Dri-Clave VK-1. All other appropriate disinfectant/sterilization methods are acceptable. Colorvue® Probes are a multi-use disposable product. Markings will wear with normal use.

Product Quality Guarantee - In General Limited Lifetime Warranty Except as otherwise provided below, Hu-Friedy instruments provide a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, and Hu-Friedy will, at its option, repair or replace any product that fails as a result of any such defect. Hu-Friedy guarantees against breakage, joint failure, and corrosion under normal use. Instruments that show expected wear under ordinary use are not considered to be defective.
