Question 1 During the walkthrough it was discussed that the existing post are in good condition and could be “over sleeved” in CLIN 1 with a new 3” post, all post which are damaged will be removed and a new 3” post will be set in concrete. Can you confirm this method is acceptable?
Answer: Yes
Question 2 It was mentioned at the pre-bid that the fence will have top rail and bottom coil wire. Please confirm.
Answer: Yes
Question 3 What is spec on the gage and finish of the wire mesh? 2 x 9 or 2 x 6? Extruded or Fused and Bonded?
Answer: 9 gauge with 2 inch mesh, Extruded is the most reasonable
Question 4 What size terminal and line post are required for the new fence post being set in CLIN 2, 4, 5 Answer: Line post - A post located between terminal or end posts to provide support for the fence. Line post cap - A cap or top with a loop used to position the top rail or tension wire on top of the line posts. Please use the industry standard for residential fencing. If good, better or best, please use BETTER.
Question 5 What is the max spacing between line post?
Answer: Line posts should not be spaced more than 10 feet apart. For example, if the length between two terminal posts is 30 feet, then line posts would be spaced 10 feet apart. Please use the existing posts along the southern fence line
Question 6 Are all post and rail to be schedule 20 or 40?
Answer: Schedule 40, if that is the industry standard for residential property. If good, better or best, please use BETTER
Question 7 Are there any details (sizes) of footings?
Answer: No. Along the southern fence we will be using the existing posts and footings. For those that are damaged, please dig and place a new footing of the same size and type that are already there, and using a 3” diameter post, same as the sleeve
Question 8 Does the concrete need to be transit mix?
Answer: Transit-mixed (also known as truck-mixed) concrete, materials are batched at a central plant and are completely mixed in the truck in transit. Transit-mixing keeps the water separate
6913G619R200043_0001 from the cement and aggregates and allows the concrete to be mixed immediately before placement at the construction site. This decision is up to the contractor. In our last two fencing jobs, the concrete was prepared on site.
Question 9 Can you provide a manufacturer for the black turf inserts?
Answer: If black is not available, we will probably need to use green hedge inserts
Question 10 Is temporary construction fence required?
Answer: Yes
Question 11 Can you provide more information for the requirement “Black turf design visual and wind barriers” Is there a specification or possibly a catalog cut of some type?
If you need something more official please advise.
Answer: The turf design and visual wind barriers, commonly referred to as Hedges, are found on several fence supply web sites. Additionally, next to the USMMA in Kings Point, the Town of Kings Point Village, DPW yard, directly across the street from the Police Station has them deployed in their perimeter fencing. If black is not available, green will be acceptable. Please refer to the photo as an example.
Question 12 Where does the bid have to be mailed?
Answer: The bid should be emailed to heather.simpson@dot.gov by 1500 Eastern Time on 10/25/2019.
