About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) issued by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UW-Eau Claire) for Robotics Academic Labs, identified by the number UWEAU-03112025-RFI. The university is seeking market information for its Department of Physics and Astronomy to develop a robotics engineering major, with the goal of establishing a multipurpose undergraduate robotics lab. The RFI requires suppliers to provide detailed information about robotics and mechatronics lab apparatus that can support multiple programming languages and course levels. The response deadline is March 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM CT, and the university seeks a system with at least 6 physical lab stations, each including a servomotor platform, mobile robot system, robotic arm with 4 degrees of freedom, and digital twins for hardware devices.

The RFI does not constitute a formal procurement and will not result in a direct contract, but instead aims to gather market intelligence for potential future competitive solicitation. Suppliers are asked to provide comprehensive information including company background, technical specifications, software licensing details, and pricing structures. The university is specifically interested in solutions that offer a seamless interface for student learning across multiple courses, support various programming languages (Python, C++, ROS, MATLAB, Simulink, Java), and include an existing undergraduate lab curriculum. The pricing information requested is for planning purposes only, with suppliers expected to provide estimated costs for functional components, recurring and non-recurring expenses, maintenance, training options, and potential implementation services.

1. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UW-Eau Claire, UWEC or University) through its Procurement & Strategic Sourcing Office, is releasing this Request for Information (RFI) to identify market information for our Department of Physics and Astronomy regarding Robotics and Mechatronics Academic Labs that allow students to program, control, design and build mobile robotic systems seamlessly through multiple university courses.

The main purpose of the RFI is to obtain current, detailed market information regarding available robotics and mechatronics labs apparatus. The information gained from this RFI is for informational purposes only. The information gained may be used to develop a competitive procurement. The University will solely determine if a competitive procurement will be conducted. If suppliers responding to this RFI hold competitively awarded contracts with consortium groups or other states, it may be used to select a supplier from an eligible contract. University selection for such products and/or services is not contingent on RFI responses. This RFI does not substitute a competitive procurement process, nor will it result in a contract. The University will determine how the results of the RFI will be used based on its best interest, for which it is the sole determinant.
