UTV SPECIFICATIONS

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE – MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK

LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY SERVICES (LEES)

The Mammoth Cave (MACA) Law Enforcement and Emergency Services division commonly has a need of transporting multiple passengers and equipment on unimproved, backcountry roads and trails. The trails and roads are often deeply rutted, narrow, and closely edged by trees, stumps, rocks and bluffs. A vehicle must be versatile enough to carry a patient in a rescue litter or gear such as ropes and chainsaws while narrow enough to fit between tight spaces. The vehicle must also be able to tow trailers, including a patient litter trailer.

The UTV currently utilized by LEES only has seating for a driver and one passenger. If two rangers respond to a trauma or medical issue in the backcountry there is no additional room to transport a patient except in a litter in the bed. Many backcountry calls for heat related illness, diabetic emergency, respiratory distress or extremity trauma could be more simply transported with a vehicle with more seating.

The vehicle will be utilized for Search and Rescue, Emergency Medical response, backcountry patrol and response to wildland fires or prescribed burns.
