About this file
This document is an Attachment B detailing labor category descriptions for core services in an animal research facility, specifically outlining three primary labor categories: Animal Care Technician, Cagewash Technician, and Animal Facility Specialist. Each labor category is comprehensively defined with three hierarchical levels (Level I, II, III), describing increasing complexity of responsibilities, qualifications, requirements, and demonstrated proficiencies.
The labor categories cover critical roles in animal research environments, with progressively advanced skill sets. Animal Care Technicians range from basic animal care duties to advanced technical procedures with non-human primates. Cagewash Technicians progress from basic equipment operation to independent maintenance of complex washing and sterilization equipment. Animal Facility Specialists advance from direct supervision of 1-2 positions to providing technical services and clinical support for more than 5 positions. The document aligns with the related USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) pre-solicitation for a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) for Animal Care Support Services, suggesting these labor categories will likely be part of the eventual solicitation's scope of work.
