Background

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the nation's foremost federally funded biomedical research institution. The Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center (CRC) is the onsite hospital for the NIH campus.

The Edmond J. Safra Family Lodge at NIH offers a home-like place of respite for families and loved ones of adult patients who are receiving care at the NIH Clinical Center, the nation's premier clinical research hospital.

Patients from across the nation and throughout the world visit NIH to participate as partners in medical discovery. Our patients often visit with serious medical conditions and are undergoing intensive medical treatments.

The facility includes 34 guest rooms, a library, a generously equipped business and telecommuting center, a fitness center, a home-style kitchen, and comfortable social areas. There are two fully equipped laundry rooms for guests to use. The facility TV and DVD system are similar to a hotel environment as a cost savings. The current TV and DVD system has been in place since Lodge approximately 2011. A warranted upgrade is due to warranty issues, failures in the aging system, and equipment housing. Edmond J. Safra Family Lodge Best Value Determination

The current equipment is 10 years old and in desperate need of repair. However, parts and labor for repair out way the cost of purchasing new equipment with ease of use, installation and new warranty. The best value determination is based on price and non-price factors. Technical and past performance is more important than price. The equipment must have the ability to serve the patient/caregiver population, sometimes with special needs. Vendor equipment which has the higher price was chosen based on their known past performance of quality, longevity, and ease of use for the patient population. The added Pro-idiom technology allows for user friendly and quick use of the equipment for all levels. The Blu-ray component with HDMI access allows for flexible viewing experience.

Brand Name LG Justification

The Safra Family Lodge opened for occupancy in 2005 with the current LG system. The precious version of the LG TV is out of warranty and no longer supported by LG. The LG system has been upgraded to manage our guest complexity and is the fit needed without accruing additional expense for another device fit. The upgrade is compatible with our existing platform and will be the least disruptive to our patients/caregivers during the installation process. We are requesting to upgrade to the current system for ease of use, safety and cost effective reasons.

The TV and Blu ray combination is best suited for the lodge and is easily handled by our special guests. We are using the same vendor that the Clinical Center purchased for our patient population.

Purchase of this TV Blu-ray equipment must include the installation, setup and training as a package not as a separate unit.
