BACKGROUND/DESCRIPTION:

The US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC), the United States (U.S.) Army Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Center ( C5ISR Center) is interested in receiving white papers for the ULTRA-WIDEBAND (UWB) ANTENNA covering 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz frequency range.

The antenna will be used for short range/ intra soldier wireless communication. The antenna should have a minimum of 40 degrees radiation beam-width, with a constant electrical field polarization sense. Although a Linearly Polarized (LP) antenna is preferable, a Circularly Polarized (CP) antenna will be considered. The antenna should have a small form factor that could be easily mounted inside devices/sensors, such as hand-held weapon mounted thermal cameras and laser range finders, night vision googles, and/or a helmet sensor-mount assembly. The antenna should radiate efficiently (better than 50%) within the covered frequency range. Detailed antenna specifications are listed below:

UWB Antenna Requirements:

1. Frequency Range: 3.1GHz ~ 10.6GHz

2. Polarization: LP (preferable) or CP

3. Impedance: 50 ohm (nominal)

4. VSWR: Maximum 2.5:1 (Objective), 3.0:1 (Threshold)

5. Max Dimensions: 0.300” x 0.400” x 0.080” (antenna without cable)

6. RF interface: Surface mount or with Hirose U.FL Cable Plug (one port)

7. Antenna Efficiency: Min. 50%

8. Weight: Max. 0.1g (antenna without cable)

Vendors may respond with technical information on Commercial of the Shelf (COTS) or modified COTS products or mature prototypes that meet the requirements of this RFI, and are at least at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or greater.

The antenna shall be capable of operating under established environmental and weather conditions per the MIL-STD-810G, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TEST METHOD

STANDARD: ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING CONSIDERATIONS AND

LABORATORY TESTS (31 OCT 2008).
