About this file
This document outlines requirements for the procurement of American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code tube pressure vessels. NASA Marshall Space Flight Center requires 18 ASME Code tube pressure vessels with a total maximum volume of approximately 60 cubic feet each, configured in assemblies of 6 vessels for a total of 3 assemblies. The vessels must match the design of vessels previously purchased in 2017. They will be used as replacements for aging pressure vessels to support ongoing test operations. Interested parties may submit capabilities by February 7, 2024 to determine whether to conduct a full and open competition or sole source award to the incumbent, FIBA Technologies, who provided the previously purchased vessels.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers Tube Pressure Vessel Specifications
1. Scope. This statement of work (SOW) defines specifications and acquisition of ASME Code tube pressure vessels for NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).
2. Background. NASA/MSFC currently has pressure vessels that are aging and approaching the individually defined fatigue life. To continually support ongoing test operations, specific vessels will be replaced with ASME Code tube vessels due to their ease of movement and flexibility of media supported locally.
NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Alabama has a need for ASME Code Tube pressure vessels with a total accumulated maximum volume of approximately 60 cubic feet (water volume). Estimates to include delivery to MSFC where they will be unloaded by onsite personnel.
Technical Specifications
Horizontal, Seamless, ASME pressure vessel with Spun (Forged) end nozzle configurations Design Code: ASME Section VIII, Division 1, Appendix 22 (Forged) Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) is 5,500 PSI Minimum Design Metal Temperature (MDMT): -20 (Negative Twenty) Degrees Fahrenheit at 5,500 PSI Hydrostatic test pressure to ASME Code guidelines at ambient temperature Capacity of each vessel to be approximately 55-60 cubic feet (water volume) Service for each vessel is dry gas (non-corrosive) Each vessel shall be registered with the National Board of Boilers and Pressure Vessel Inspectors Finish: Vessel Interior: Grit blast free of loose scale
Vessel Exterior: Grit blast and paint per Marshall Space Flight Center - Technical Specifications for Repairs and Construction MSFC TSRC-11, 09 90 00, Section 3.5 D (See Attachment A)
Vessels shall be internally clean per MSFC TSRC-11, 22 15 13.01, Part 3, Class I “CLASS I CLEANLINESS” (See Attachment A)
Vessels to be same design as previously purchased in 2017 to fit foundations which were installed to match footprint of the design of vessels purchased previously.
Vessels to be oriented as an assembly of 6 vessels, for a total of three assemblies for a total of 18 vessels.
End nozzle configuration for vessels shall be internal threads.
Nozzle internal diameter shall be two and one-half (2-1/2) inches or larger.
Each vessel shall be shipped with Bull Plugs assembled and rated to 5,500 PSIG or greater containing a
2-3/4” 8UN x 1-1/2” FNGT thread pattern.
Vessels shall be shipped clean and dry with end nozzle configurations plugged with matching thread hardware
Deliverables
The following documentation SHALL be submitted at delivery for each vessel in the form of a vessel data package [one (1) hard copy for each vessel and one (1) electronic copy for each vessel]:
1. Vessel construction drawings
2. Hydrostatic test records and results
3. Cleaning test records and results
4. Manufacturer’s Data Report Form U-1A
