About this file

The document is a Vehicle Tow and Storage Report from the Sacramento County Community Development Department, detailing procedures for vehicle impoundment and recovery. The form outlines specific California Vehicle Code and Sacramento County Code sections that authorize vehicle removal, including provisions for abandoned vehicles, vehicles parked continuously for over 72 hours, vehicles with expired registration, and vehicles missing critical operational parts. The document provides comprehensive instructions for vehicle owners regarding the tow process, including notification of rights to a post-storage hearing and the specific steps required to reclaim a towed vehicle.

The recovery process requires vehicle owners to present a Vehicle Tow and Storage Report, valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and pay associated fees at the Sacramento County Consolidated Utility Billing & Service Payment Counter. Payment can be made in cash, money order, or cashier's check, with a 2.35% fee for credit or debit card transactions. The document provides specific contact information for dispute resolution, including a number for the Department of Revenue Recovery and the Code Enforcement Vehicle Abatement Desk. If an owner is no longer the registered owner, they can submit a Release of Liability form to potentially avoid responsibility for the towing and storage fees, with the process taking approximately five business days to complete.
