About this file
This solicitation requests maintenance services for electron microscopes. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) seeks preventative maintenance and repairs for two FEI Titan Krios 300kV cryo transmission electron microscopes, one FEI Helios G4 focused ion beam scanning electron microscope, and associated equipment. The contractor must provide certified technicians, response within 48 hours for onsite support and emergency repairs, annual preventative maintenance inspections, and software and firmware updates. Quotes are due by March 7, 2024 with award anticipated on or around March 27, 2024 for a one year base period and four one-year options. Evaluation will consider technical acceptability, past performance, and price.

STATEMENT OF WORK
2/5/2024
1) BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Electron Microscopy (EM) Unit of the Research Technologies Branch (RTB) provides state-of-the-art technologies to support the ultrastructural imaging needs of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious (NIAID) scientists both in the Bethesda, Maryland, area and at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, Montana. The facility provides sample preparation and analysis ranging from basic to high resolution structural studies to immuno-localization of selected antigens for a wide array of specimens. A variety of methods, protocols, and equipment are employed to accommodate different preparative and imaging needs. Real-time viewing of samples by video image-sharing is available to NIAID users, enabling scientists at distant locations the ability to view samples simultaneously with microscopy staff. In order to continue to provide for the needs of NIAID researchers, the RTB must continue to upgrade, expand and maintain its instrumentation.
RTB requires service agreements for two FEI Company (FEI) Titan Krios 300kV High-resolution cryo TEMs and one Helios G4 FIB-SEM. The Krios microscopes are state-of-the-art microscopes that is used to solve structures of wide variety of proteins ranging from Prions and HIV spike to various vaccine candidates. The Helios G4 FIB -SEM has allowed NIAID investigators to study pathogen interaction by reconstructing the whole cell. Using the ion beam this microscope allows for removal of very thin layer of biological material to be imaged by the electron beam. These specialized microscopes need the highest level of training to operate and maintain. Since these microscopes operate 24/7 collecting data any down time has adverse effect on the mission of NIAID.
