Salient Characteristics of Crack Sealing Machine.

The USDA Forest Service is looking to procure a Crack Sealing machine for the maintenance of asphalt ramps and areas maintained by tanker base and aviation employees. The following Characteristics are required.

• Towable, oil jacketed melter/ applicator for hot pour crack.

• Engine and burner need to both run on diesel for safety and efficiency.

• Melter tank capacity should be a 100 gal minimum and be a bottom fired forced air diesel burner.

• Applicator hose needs to be heated to help eliminate flushing for cleanup.

• Needs to be capable of applying material within an hour of startup.

• Have direct drive, forward and reverse full sweep agitation.

• Be outfitted with a anti splash material loading hatch for safety.

• Engine security cover.

• Electro-hydraulic manifold with a flow control for pump and mixer speeds.

• Digital control center that is weatherproof for monitoring heating systems, agitation, and the pump.

• Air compressor reeled hose that is between 80’ and 125” and wand for blowing out cracks prior to sealing.

• Oil jacket type tank for uniform heating.

• Automatic electronic temperature control.

• Material pump should be at least 2” steel gear and able to be reversible.

• Application hose needs to be at ¾” and at least 18’ long on a counterbalanced swivel type boom.

• Equipped with beacon/ safety lights.

• Equipped with a toolbox, including needed accessories for safe operating and troubleshooting in the field.

• The tool Box can be Steel or Aluminum. It must be able to hold all of the necessary equipment for safe operation of the equipment.

• Equipped with a spare tire and mount.

• Attached 20# ABC fire extinguisher.

• Suspension must be torsion type, single or dual axle.

• Have a surge brake assembly and preferably a ball hitch.

• Must not exceed 206” in length, 93” in width or 96”in height.

• Must not exceed 5500#s empty.

*Optional in person Training- The awardee will need to coordinate/ arrange a technical training of this equipment with Forest Service staff within 30 days of delivery in person at delivery site.

Training needs to consist of the operation and cleaning of the machine in accordance with the manufacture recommendations. The Government will determine at the time of awardee if there is the availability of funding to exercise this option.
