About this file

This technical specifications document outlines the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) requirements for hydroacoustic analysis software to collect and analyze fisheries data. The agency requires one software license with specific capabilities.

The required software must support multiple echosounder file types from vendors including Biosonics, Simrad, Oculus, ARIS, HTI, ASL, and Echoview, operate on Windows systems, and provide real-time data collection, calibration, and visualization capabilities for both stationary and mobile surveys. Key technical requirements include built-in tools for target filtering, habitat mapping, environmental variable definition, movement tracking, and fish school density estimation, along with 3D visualization and established analysis metrics. The software must offer automation capabilities for processing large datasets using R or Python, have documented use in published fisheries literature, and include one year of comprehensive technical support and training opportunities (online or in-person).

Technical Specifications Requirement for Hydroacoustic Analysis Software

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) requires software to collect and analyze hydroacoustic data.

This software is an integral part of our hydroacoustic data analysis process and is used to collect and quantify fisheries data.

Quantity: 1

Salient characteristics:

- Support for a wide range of echosounder file types from several brands (Biosonics, Simrad, Oculus, ARIS, HTI, ASL, Echoview) and other major GIS and media file formats

- Functions on Windows computers

- Support real-time hydroacoustic data collection, data calibration, data visualization o Compatible with stationary and mobile survey designs

- Software should provide built in tools to filter targets, map habitats, define environmental variables, track movements, and estimate densities of fish schools o 3D visualization tools o Analysis metrics from published literature (Center of Mass, Inertia, Proportion

Occupied, Aggregation Index, Sv mean, etc.)

- Must offer automation capabilities to process thousands of files (using R or Python)

- There must be an established use of the software in the published fisheries literature

- Access to comprehensive technical assistance to answer questions about collected data or analysis approaches (1 year)

- Opportunities for training and further education using the software (online or in person)
