About this file

The document is a Technical Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Seven's Invitation to Bid (ITB) DOT-ITB-25-7028-EG for Refurbished Toughbooks and Docking Stations. The Q&A addresses two specific vendor inquiries regarding the procurement of Panasonic Toughbook FZ-55 laptops, focusing on processor generation and model compatibility. The department emphasizes maintaining uniformity across their existing fleet by requesting the same Toughbook model (FZ-55) with the option for vendors to provide updated configurations that meet or exceed the original specifications.

The technical document clarifies that the specifications are based on previously purchased Toughbooks intended to replace current units, with specific requirements for docking stations and accessories designed for the Panasonic FZ-55 model. The department prioritizes hardware compatibility, streamlined maintenance, and support, indicating that using a different model could result in additional costs and logistical complications. While an 8th generation processor was originally specified, the Q&A suggests flexibility for newer-generation internal components that meet or exceed the minimum performance requirements, allowing vendors to supply the most current "available" generation of equipment.

REFURBISHED TOUGHBOOKS AND DOCKING STATIONS FOR DISTRICT SEVEN

TECHNICAL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1) Question: 8th gen Processor is quite old, we are still looking for it now. We have access to newer gen CPU models but they will be considerably more expensive. Is there a reason you wanted an 8th gen CPU for this request?

Answer:. The mentioned Panasonic Toughbook model and processor are consistent with the existing fleet of Toughbooks that were previously purchased and are awaiting installation. While this specific configuration was not explicitly requested during the initial purchase, it was what was provided and has since proven to be reliable, fully capable of meeting all performance requirements for our systems and software, and the most cost-effective option for the Department.

To ensure uniformity across the fleet, streamline maintenance and support, and maintain accessory and docking station compatibility, we are continuing with the Panasonic Toughbook FZ-55 platform.

While we require the same FZ-55 model to maintain hardware compatibility, updated configurations with newer-generation internal components that meet or exceed the original specifications are acceptable. This ensures continued compatibility while also allowing vendors to supply the most current generation or currently “available” generation.

2) Question: Are you open to a similar model, or do you require the exact specs you provided only?

Answer:. The specifications provided in the ITB are based on the new Panasonic Toughbooks that were previously purchased to replace the current units in use.

Additionally, the docking stations and accessories listed in the ITB are specifically designed for the Panasonic Toughbook FZ-55 model. Use of a different or similar model may result in incompatibility with these peripherals, leading to additional costs, logistical complications, and delays.

To maintain consistency, simplify support, and ensure full integration with our existing equipment, we are requesting that vendors provide the same Toughbook model (FZ-55).

Configurations that include newer-generation internal components that meet or exceed the specified minimum requirements are acceptable.
